This is a short documentary about man and his wife, living north of Fairbanks in the Arctic circle..

If you have some time to kill, I highly suggest watching this..

I liked that even though him and his wife are typically the only one's out there, he still gets bitched at for getting mud on the carpet... ::)

Obviously each of the rifles he had was for a specific purpose.  I was surprised to see he favored the shotgun for bear/large game.  What do you think it was loaded with?  Excuse me... my inexperience is showing :-[

My friend, who is the district conservationist on Kodiak Island, tells me that most people carry 12 gauge shotguns with slugs to deal with bear.
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Huh, interesting.  Did he burn the bear carcass in the end?  You'd think that would be good meat, especially since they didn't get the extra caribou they were hoping for.  He did kind of allude to one dead bear being an attractant for other bears.  Do I have that wrong?

What would you rather face a bear with?

A .30 caliber bullet with      200 grains of lead and copper

Or  a .60 caliber bullet with 437 grains of lead and copper

At close range with trees and brush all around you.

No, he cleaned the bear at the river, for washing the meat off and to not have the gut pile near his home.

A bear was attracted to the previous gut pile.

yep 12 gauge with slugs thats what most people used when i lived in northern montana and visited alaska.

dont need to worry about range because the bear will be within 100 feet before you can react so you need something that takes it in one shot, well can take it in one shot.
