I'm down here in the next worst thing to Tijuana, San Diego. We just failed to elect a pro-CCW Sheriff, so it's almost impossible to get a concealed carry permit. Our current Sheriff is known as the "Butcher of Ruby Ridge." He's ex-FBI and believes that only criminals should be armed. On the other hand, I'm coming to Boise in July and have surgery scheduled at St. Luke's on 7/9. I'll be around for a month or more recovering. I'm looking forward to running into some of you at a range in the area. I guess it's nice living in a state that supports the Bill of Rights.

Well, friends, I have a date now for my surgery. I'll be coming to town on July 7th and the OR is scheduled for the 9th. My doctor says he wants me to stay in the hospital (St. Luke's) for two weeks, but I'm not sure my insurance will buy into that long a stay. Then he wants me to stick around for another three weeks or so.
They want me to stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites off N. Eagle, and across the street practically from the hospital. As long as I can find a Starbucks I'll be fine.

Thanks to you all for the kind words and helpful hints. Due to some irregularities in my heart rhythms I had to have a cardiac cath done to determine that I had suffered (who knows when) a hidden heart attack. Duh...well there was nothing to fix, so I now have a rescheduled surgery planned. One change is that although the surgeon is in Meridian he's going to operate at St. Luke's downtown. Then I move to a rehab facility and when they release me I go to Meridian to stay a few more weeks. So the good news is I get my back repaired, but the bad news is I won't be so handy to the Meridian meetups.
Still and all, I look forward to meeting some of you. I arrive on 9/13 and the surgery is 9/20. That's at least one week to kill that I'm sure of. All other dates are variables. Stay tuned as I will post when I know more.

Ok. The surgery seems to have gone well. It did take at least two hours longer than expected. Oh, yeah, I have a sensor on one finger and it has a mind of its own. Forgive me if I get out of control with my spelling. Doc sez he's sure that he got the alignment un-tweaked. I finally got myself upright today and ate a full meal. I may be able to function tomorrow...but to sit up a while may be problematic.
Anyway, it's gonna take some time but I reckon you'll have trouble getting rid of me. I may actually get my feet on the floor by Thursday.

I just got into a set of scrubs and walked around a bit with a walker. It took some wriggling to get up, but I think I'm improving.

Littlejohn,
Glad to hear you are up and mobile. The recovery may be a pain and seem long, but it is sooo much better than when my Dad had his first open heart in 1980.
You must be doing quite well to be able to concentrate and type.
Good luck on the rest of the recovery and hope you get to spend some extra time here.

I've now moved over the the Elks Rehab Hospital across the ?park? from St. Lukes. My docs assistant came by today with her son. He's about 16, but a bruiser. Quiet, so I worked in comments that went over "mom's" head and got a sly response from him, so I know he's ok.
They have no sense of humor here. I have to wear my back brace to go to the bathroom and they even said that I would have a companion in my first shower. I asked the vocational therapist if she would be in there with me. She said I should tell them that I don't like to be alone naked with men. Is this turning into Penthouse Forum or what? Ok, I'm pushing the envelope a little, but if not I, whom, and if not now, when?
My room is nice if not old. It's a wall of windows and almost long enough for a bowling lane. The furniture was picked out by Lucy and Ethel. And they'd been drinking.
But as Triumph, the insult comic dog says, "I keed." Everyone I meet continues to be a good person. One of my male nurses is still underage to buy a gun and get licensed, but he gushed about his dad's "AR-15 and AK-47" and looks forward to owning his own copies.
Just checkin' in,
littlejohn

Glad all is well and moving forward, If noone told you, Welcome to Boise, set your watch back 40 years. BSU football is on theedge but damn near all else is old school. You seem like a pretty laid back dude so that should work for you albeit a bit funny. If there is anything you need PM me we are the brotherhood here as far as the gunworld goes and almost anything else, schedule is flexable so, when you can grab some Moxie's or I can grab it for you, let me know. Monday update:
Today an office-type lady came in and told me that I was making such good recovery that they were going to turn me loose on Thursday or Friday. This came as a shock to me because I still can't fly home for at least several weeks. This would mean instead of Medicare supporting me, it would be ME supporting me. Not to mention that the incision is still leaking and dressings have to be done over daily.
I called my Drs office and left a fairly coherent message totally lacking in panic. His assistant called back and said, "How'd you like to live with your Doctor for a few weeks?" I told her that that was my wife's suggestion.
Most recent call said they would both be here tomorrow, Tuesday, and he would get us over, under, around or through the problem. I'll just hide and watch.

I have officially surpassed the requirement for being in need of "Acute Care" which this Elks provides. I can, apparently, move to a lesser care place of which there are many and still have the insurance pay for it. I have reached the advanced position of "Room independent" and "Movement independent." That means I don't need a monitor to go to my own bathroom or to wheel myself to the dining room. I've come a long way, baby.
I became so balmy trying to resist that I gave up and became compliant which now has them really confused.

Here I sit at the charming and entertaining Meridian Rehab and Recovery Suites on Pine. I've met some really interesting characters here, but I'm still more or less a prisoner. I could leave but have no place to go. Anybody want to spring me to go shooting? I also need a Wells Fargo Bank to hold up for some Yuppy Food Stamps (twenty dollar bills.)
My latest word from the surgeon is end of November I get to go home. There has not been a great deal of joy attached to this visit. I can only pray that the end result will balance the pain.
One of these days we'll just have to squeeze some fun out of this mess.
