Ok, I'll play... I just had a tactical rifle... till today, now I have acheived Badassness...

Savage 308, Choate USS Stock, SS 10x42 Mildot scope, and last but not least... Tac Sol Karma 7 Shusher w/tab gear Nomex sleeve that can stay in place while shooting and allows removal of the can when hot.

Rifle has shot 1/4 MOA groups, usually holds around 1/2 to 3/4 MOA, good out to 1275 yards.  ;D :sniper1:

MJM,
What twist is that on the .308?
Have you tried 190SMK, 208Amax or 210SMK's?

Ida -

the Savage 10FCP runs a 1:10 twist.  I haven't tried any of the heavier bullets because I get these kinds of groups out of 175SMKs:

First round (high-left) was the clean & cold bore shot.  The next 3 were in the single fuzzy hole, and I pulled the last one left by 1/2"  That's a 4" round at 100 meters.

I might go thru and grab some of the heavier ones at some point...bulletsamples.com did me well for a range of bullets for my POF.

MJM,
Heavies may or may not be more accurate, but they will give you some additional supersonic range.
a 10 twist should spin a 208amax which should give about 250 yards more supersonic, plus better in the wind.

ida -

good information!  My last practical precision match had us out to 1200+ yards and the 175SMK drops subsonic at around 1100.  The hard part about shooting that at competition is that I don't know that I'd want to use the 208's all the way through and it'd take a bit of work to determine the dope for that round at 1100+.  In addition, the last competition would have been difficult to plan loads for because it was a 'shooters choice' arrangement that could have had us shooting at practically any range at any time.  Kinda hard to know what count to load up for when you have no idea what the round count for ultra-long range versus just long range will be.

I'll find some 208's or 210's and give 'em a try!
