There has been some background work going on to get the PRGC sporting shotgun program up and running. The clay throwing machines have been repaired and are ready for action. To make this as rewarding and fun as possible, I will be hold a sporting shotgun clinic on Saturday, June 5th. (More to follow if interested)
The purpose of the clinic is to introduce member to trap and 5-Stand. While trap is more widely know and recognized, most find 5-Stand to be more challenging, rewarding and fun. Following is a brief 5-Stand description:
The field includes five shooting stations with shooters moving from one station to the next to complete the game. Each station presents shooters with a different type of shot. At a "decoying duck" station, incoming targets may float in toward the shooter. At each station, the first target is thrown as a single, followed by two (2) pairs. There are even special "rabbit" targets that are thrown on end and skitter across the ground. A full round of 5 Stand consists of 25 targets.
The clinic will cover standard firearms safety, Club and shooting discipline safety. Discipline etiquette and an overall description of the different shotgun disciplines.
Additionally I will be providing insight/ instruction on the the following:
Shotgun Type – Pros & Cons, shotgun fitting.
Shooting Stance
Shot size selection
Choke Selection
Eye-wear Selection and eye dominance.
Trap/5-Stand Rules and Guidelines
Reading Targets/Target Selection
Clay Target Types
Plus Tips and Tricks on how to be more consistent in hitting targets.
Starting time 09:00 ( I will be setting up the course earlier if any one can help and is interested in the “evil ways” of setting a course).
Planned schedule:
09:00 – 10:30 – Club House for safety briefing and discussion on above items.
10:30 – 12:00 – Trap Shooting
12:00 – 13:00 – Club house lunch (Working lunch covering the trap shooting and 5-Stand)
13:00 – 16:00 – 5 Stand. (And shotgun games if interested)
I am open to all ages as long as they are safety conscious and are able to handle their shotgun. Please pass this on to any members you feel may be interested.
Equipment:
Trap and 5-Stand are both designed to shoot 5 person squads. The total ammunition count will depend on how much shooting one does. Minimum clay per person/per relay is 25. For trap I would add a couple of rounds for broken birds. For 5-Stand I would use a minimum count of 30 with a couple of extra. (5-Stand allows double gunning. Shooting at the same target with 2 rounds) For anyone desiring additional shooting instruction, additional rounds will be required. I would look at 100-150 rounds as being the minimum while planning for more.
Eyes & ears (Mandatory)
Any shotgun. Preference is for a sporting model which can hold 2+ rounds. Gauge(s) of your choice – 12g, 20g, 28g or .410.
100-150 Rounds minimum. Any shot size 9 – 7 1/2. 1 1/8oz or less load. You can also mix the shot size in the same gauge (in different shells) so you can shoot the shot size based on the target(s).

Cost is $10 per person + .20 per clay target. (Will cap all relays at 25 targets per person/per relay). Any additional individual instructional clays will be charged at the same per clay rate.
