Sq Foot gardening.

6" raised beds.

1/3 peat moss

1/3 steer manure

1/3 compost

( NO SOIL, Dirt, or sand)

I don't use the vermiculite cause it is so expensive. Just make up for it with peat moss. It is just added to make sure the ground stays "open and light"

Best production I have ever seen in a garden

weeds pop right out, and when plants are grow weeds get crowded out.

Harvest is easy with 3' x 6' beds.

how does 600+ carrot plants in a 3 x 6 bed sound.  That's what we did last year.

covered the bed in the winter  and harvested carrots thru out the winter season.

We also use drip irrigation and water three times during the day.  We are on a well so I don't want water running all day long and I don't want it wasted. Cause it cost money to pump it up from 600 feet!

The only things not in a raised bed is corn, melons, pumpkins, strawberries, potatoes, aspragus. But everything is on drip irrigation.

So are you using railroad ties, 2x6, brick.....? Just curious I had a thought recently about doinga garden. What is the best in your opinion?

So far I have peas, spinach, lettuce, carrots, white onions, and Red, Russet, and Yukon Gold potatoes planted. And I got 8 3-4 week old chickens growing in the brooder.  ;D.

I still have more area to plant, but I haven't decided what else I want to plant. Do peppers grow well in this area?

Last frost day was predicted to be May 10th, but I see on the forecast that Saturday night will be close to freezing.  I don't think you're any too early.  We just finished ours up a couple days ago.
