Fanny packs, what do you carry in yours even on a short hike or
out hunting shooting varmints.....
Stepped in a hole broken a bone, looked across the canyon saw
lots of varmints to shoot you slip and you are there........
Small amount food matches others items......
Carrying a small fanny pack and also carries extra ammo for a good day of shooting....

Sunscreen, bugspray, chapstick, venom pump, babywipes, tq, hand sanitizer, latex gloves, an assortment of small bandaids, immodium, bandanna, firesteel, lighter, cliffbars, purification tablets, multitool, 550 cord, compass and a space blanket.  My thoughts are that the fannypack doesn't come off.  So it's a combination of things you're going to need in a hurry (TQ and Pump) things you'll need if you get separated from your pack, and every day items you'll use with some frequency (babywipes, bugspray).

I should add some some hooks and fishing line - any recommendations on a "pocket" fishing kit?

In a Maxpedition bag from memory (which is highly questionable):
Two lights sticks
About 25 feet of 550 cord
Strobe marker light
Two of those $.89 cent rain ponchos
Band-aids
A Surefire E2E (with the way-cool 4 watt LED head)
Some extra prescription meds
Two G19 mags
Strider Folder
A couple of other folders
A can of Liquid-hell (OC)
Leatherman
Mini-mag (with LED head) inits own pouch
Leatherman Micra
Calculator
Israeli tourniquet
Several Photon key-chain lights hanging from a few zippers
And probably a bunch of other items, since I already mentioned the memory issue. It goes EVERYWHERE with me. ( I think Jerry Seinfeld callled it a "European handbag" in one episode.

It's a "man purse," Bill - and a darn good one.  I've got one myself.  ;)
