I've been doing some similar research. Have you investigated TrailBoss powder in a .308?http://www.benchrest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63450http://www.eotacforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=60221I'm still waiting to finish a couple more projects before getting a Savage .308 to start playing with that.Would love to hear your plans.
I was going to wait to make this thread until I picked up a suppressor, so thanks for the thread Jim!
Yay though we walk through the shadow of the valley of death, we will fear no evil...for we are the baddest mother fuckers in the valley
8.5gr. TrailbossLC brass30-30 cal. .308dia 170gr Sierra FNCCI primers= 885fpsThe sweet spot for me was around 9.5gr. going just over 1000fps., same materials. Once I got into 10-11gr. I was around or above 1100fps and no longer subsonic.
i have successfully loaded 168g bthp using titegroup. iirc it was in the 8 g area. it was fairly accurate at 100y (3' group), some evidence of keyholeing. Fun to dink with but not enough accuracy for precision marmot work.
I read not to use Titegroup because the nature of that double base powder makes SEE much more likely.
