A couple of questions for anyone who knows:

1) Is the Garden City Cannery an LDS cannery?  Don't care either way, just curious.
2) What is the shelf life on these kinds of products?
It's TEOTWAWKI, and I feel fine.

Also - what does it mean you have to "work a shift" to purchase these items?  Do you have to go with a member of the LDS church to buy things there?  How does it work?

You don't have to be a member.  I'm not and have done this a couple of times.

Work a shift.   Means you have to help restock the shelves...sometimes you do sometimes you don't, but it is expected.

We have spent as little as 20 minutes but no longer than an hour (once)  most of the time around 30 minutes.

Take the whole family then it is a lot of fun working together and the kids love learning to use the machines.

To buy wet pack stuff they want you to work a wet pack shift.  There is a schedule and you can call the cannery to get it and to sigh up.

Kids aren't allowed to can (wet or dry).  I'm not sure what the age cutoff is.

1) Yes.
2) The document (dry pack at least) says.

Cool, thanks, Jeff!  One more newbie question - do you have to buy by the case?   :D

This looks really interesting - I definitely want to participate.

Nope.  Dry pack you can buy in the bulk bags or by the can (if you volunteer time).  Wet pack is by the can but you need to volunteer time.

BTW, I'm not in the church and am not going to organize anything.  I posted the info because several people asked.  You'll either want to get with someone in the church (almost for sure you already know someone that's LDS) or go talk to the folks at the Cannery.
