I recently had trouble with flash too.  Have you tried completely uninstalling it and then reinstalling it from Adobe's website?  That fixed it for me.

It appears I have more problems than I thought. I did uninstall it, but now I can not reinstall it. I just found out I can not add attachments to my e-mail. I am going to do a restore and see what happens.

Did that. AVG did not pick up anything. Bit defender did pick up a trojan, and removed it.

Need a little more info.
Which version of Micro$oft Windows are you running?
Which browser, Firefox, IE, Opera?
Have you recently updated the system, installed new software, or upgraded hardware?
When you uninstantiated, did you reboot the machine before attempting a reinstall?

If you found a Trojan, you will need to reinstall. Once your system has been compromised, it stays compromised. The only fix is scorched earth.
Once nasties get into your system, the compromise your system in such a way that makes it easy for other nasties to get onto your system.
Removal of an intruder can also damage the system.

Do you think a restore from an external hard drive will work?

You can try manually running this installer and flash might decide to work.

http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

But as others have said... if your system is hosed it might be reinstall time.

If the restore is from a ghosted copy, then yes, it will work. If the restore is a backtrack, the underlying problem could still be there.
Try the manual update that fm500 suggests.
You could also try flash 9 http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

But, your main problem lies in the OS, it is buggy. The best solution would be to upgrade to the latest version of Ubuntu! ;D

This is getting screwer all the time.

I found this: http://support.mozilla.com/nl/forum/1/624799

Funny thing is, I can not remove bit defender, which someone on this thread said they did to fix the problem.

And not being able to add attachments to my e-mail is going to kill me. It is one of the ways I apply for jobs!

You tried uninstalling Bit Defender from the uninstall in the program, and also through the add/remove in the Control Panel, right?
Try Safe Mode for the uninstall?
What are you using for e-mail? Pop3, Yahoo...

I can not find an uninstall for it, and it does not show up in the add/remove. I am using msn mail, and gmail.

I don't understand why you can't add attachments to your e-mails.  Are you getting an error, or is the page not loading after attachment?

Here is from Bit Defender's website on uninstalling:http://www.bitdefender.com/KB333-en--How-to-uninstall-BitDefender.html
It could be that during the original install, the uninstall menu was omitted. Try reinstalling, Bit Defender. Also, the option to repair, install, or install may show up when you pop in the disc again.

Other then this, I can't think of another way to get rid of Bit Defender. Vista is so clingy to programs, the physical removal of it, without going through a proper uninstall progam, could cause damage to the OS.

Looked around a bit more, this site may help:http://forums.techarena.in/networking-security/1165379.htm

Good luck :)

Your problem might be Firefox. Have you tried using IE? Adobe flash may have damaged the Fox browser.
Have you made backups of your important data lately?  ;)

If IE will not work, the only thing I can see is to reinstall the OS.

Sorry, but if you are running into the same problem in both browsers, and you have tried to reinstall bit defender, the only thing I can say is to reinstall the OS. :'(
It may have been the OS was damaged when the trojen  was removed.  >:(

I did an upgrade to Firefox last week and had a problem with downloads for awhile. It seemed like a couple cold reboots were necessary but that did resolve. And I have issues every time any Adobe product updates. It seems like it takes several cycles to completely reset.
All data is flawed, some just less so.

Removing bit defender did it! I can download, add attachments to e-mail, and I have video now!

Here is how I removed bit defender, Tools/Add-Ons/Extensions/Bit Defender/Uninstall.

And here is where I got the info. http://support.mozilla.com/nl/forum/1/624799

So, Bit Defender is an anti virus that lives in the browser?
And even though it was installed via Firefox, it was affecting IE?  :-\
That doesn't make sense.  ???
