COM Shot Shell Holder - 8 Rounds
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:10:21 PM »
Item being reviewed: Center of Mass (COM) 8 Round Shotshell Holder

Description of item: Belt clip shotshell holder for 3 gun, and other shotgun type events. Hold 8 round of 2 3/4 to 3" shell in a double stack arrangement.

Description of review tests: Have not competed with this, but I have been using it for the last few days practicing my weakhand shot shell reloads. I'm still getting it down, but this does make it easy to grab 4 shells at a time. With two of these on the belt you have 16 rounds ready to go, another 8 on the gun, 2 in the side saddle, and 9 in the gun and I have 35 rounds at my fingertips ready to rock and roll.

These are well built and the belt clip is solid, the kydex looks like it will last and not come apart. It uses an outdoor grass type of material on the sides to hold the shells in place.

Pros: A lot of rounds on the belt for reload, easy to load them up, seem solid, nothing comes out while jumping around in the house.
Cons: Time will tell how long the turf type material will hold up, and I am concerned about the splay in the holders not holding onto the shells after about 10 minutes of practice. So we will see.

Best Uses: 3 gun, shotgun competition events that require lots of rounds and reloading on the move.
Duration Used: about a week
Where purchased:( COM, an Idaho Company, http://www.comholsters.com/index.php
Cost: $45/ea
Rating: (1 through 5, 5 being best) I'd give it a solid 3 right now.

Compared to California Competition Works 4 and 6 round holders these are bulkier, but they hold more. THey also cost more, but they hold 2x as much. But still the 6 round CCW holder are nicer looking and have a beefer belt clip.

So anymore thoughts on these ? How are they holding up ? I need some shot shell pouches but am struggling with the pricing on some of the higher end ones .

Funny you should ask, I finally used them this weekend for a shoot.

They worked well. I am practicing grabbing the top four, jamming them in the gun, then grab the next four, and stuff again. Once you train yourself to grab four at a time, they loading system works good. I think better than a 6 shot holder, which is a wierd number.

I had 2 stages that the gun started empty, so I had to stuff the gun full before shooting, and these worked well. I could also carry 16 rounds on my body for extra reloads should I need them (I didn't but they were there).

I was running and gunning, and my fear of loosing a shell or two didn't happen. They are retaining the shells just fine.

So far so good.

COM has stopped making these because they cost too much.  I have two left at the shop and when they are gone that's it.  :(
