Tried the 69gr bullets on rockchucks did not explode enough to make a humane kill.
Couple went into their holes dragging their guts so went to the 75gr hornady and
the results were better.
Use the Vmax in most of the areas in the 223 55gr...
Planning on trying some lighter bullets this year.....

I've used the 40gr Vmax and 28 grns of BLC2 on chucks to good effect in the past but limited my shooting to around 300 yards. Good 1 shot bang yer dead results. Very explosive!

Don't know if you guys saw that Barnes has released some 50gr .223 varmint Grenades made for barrels faster than 1:10.  My 36gr VG's don't work so well in my 1:7 rifle.  I haven't tried them in a 1:9 yet but don't expect much better.  I don't have a 1:12 rifle.

I think your 1:9 will work just fine ;)

Oh that looks like fun Jmack. I think I have only shot two in my life.   And the 50gr have been out for a while we have had them for over a year. The work great in my 1:9 have not tried them at any distance out of my 1:7.  Need to get out some more and get some this year.

Remember those sploded squirrel pics I posted last year?  Those were all done with 50gr VGs out of a 20" 1:8.  I had H322 behind them, but I forget how much.  They grouped at or under an inch pretty consistently.  Maybe smaller with a better shooter.

Where is the best spot within an hour of Boise -- and at what time of the year are they most prevalent?

Centennial Golf Course, 4th tee box.  April-May.

Doubt you'll get any good answers on that one.  That's like asking where your favorite fishing hole is..  Rock chucks are getting harder and harder to find, with the subdivisions crowding in on the good spots here in the valley it's tough to find a good spot.  I've got two O.K. ones, but there aren't many and you have to be careful to leave some for next year.

Looks like fun!

you got that right....that's the one downside to not being from the area originally: you don't know where all the good spots are. :(
