Omlettes in a bag - Great for camping

You'll need 1 quart zip loc freezer bags. (one for each omlette) Has to be freeer bags or it will melt when you cook it.
Sharpie pen to label each bag with names.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil on your camp stove.
Have people right their names on a ziploc with the sharpie.
In the meantime prepare (chop) whatever ingredients people want in their omlettes.
Whisk your eggs and milk in a large bowl. You need 1/2 to 3/4 cup of egg mixture per omlette.
Take a freezer bag and add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of the egg mixture. Then add whatever other ingredients you want.
I usually add chopped ham, onions, mushrooms, olives, cheese etc. The list is endless. Seal your bag.
Once you have your ingredients in the bag use your hand on the outside of the bag to mix it up by squishing the bag together. So ingredients are incorporated with the egg mixture.
Drop the bag into boiling water and boil for 20-30 minutes. Check for doneness by opening the bag and checking the center of the omlette. If done pour out onto paper plates and serve.

That is a damn good idea. Or you could pre-prepare them huh?

Thanks for the reminder, had forgotten all about the great idea.
Your idea is better for no mess cleanup with the hot water bath.
Did same at family reunion this fall for breakfast for about 40 people kids and all. Had every ingredient known to man. All got just exactly the ingredients and style they wanted with 4 fry pans on two stoves. Just pour the contents into the fry pan.
Hot cakes, toast, bacon, sausage, fruits, juices, coffee and so forth just past the stove on your way to the chairs.
Worked great. Excellent idea for groups.

To add another spin to this awesome recipe...
Take some Pita Pocket Bread
Open the pita pocket, dump your omelot in, sprinkle with shredded cheese, now pour some sauasage gravy on top...
You now have a portable country breakfast without needing a plate..

Great post. What we do is throw in a few eggs, some ham, green peppers, mushrooms, cheese, and/or whatever you like. Zip the top shut and mix everything in the bag. Throw it in the water, and youre gtg.

I've done this with zip-lock sandwich bags and it usually works. Don't try it with the generic bags (there is a difference in quality) unless you put one bag inside another. These are great for Scout campouts.

I've made these pre-trip and frozen them. On long trips I pack several coolers. The idea being that you have one that doesn't get opened until mid trip. I use one large cooler for days 1 and 2, a second one for days 3/4 and so on. I have had frozen meat and ice cold beer on day seven on several occasions.
