.223 Ammo Prices
« on: January 27, 2010, 12:39:12 PM »
I just got a Cabelas flyer in the mail, and they've got a coupon for a 50rd box of Remington 55gr FMJ for 19.99.  I currently don't have a .223, but am scheming an ar build in the not so distant future.

I think this is a good price, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a secret ubercheap ammo spot I was missing.

I want to start getting some ammo/brass together, especially if it's cheap!  I will be reloading for this thing when it happens.

Whaddya'll think?

Thanks!
Dan

Last batch I bought was from Valiant: http://www.valiantfirearms.com/catalog.html

If you get the 1000 round box it comes out to $19.25 for 50 rounds.  Unless something has changed, they also give a BoiseShooters discount that would drop the price further.

Jeff's got it down right. Our agency shoots SheepDog. It's good stuff.  And it's supporting local business.

Thanks guys.  I forgot about Valiant, and was looking at the wrong price (62gr vs 55gr) on the sheepdog.

So basically, for a small quantity, it's a decent price, but not unheard-of low.

Gotta get on this AR build so I can do a 3 gun shoot with a semi-auto!!  ;D

Jeff,

Do you mind divulging a little more about what you've got in stock?  Is it reloaded?  Cost per round? Where is your shop? (sorry, just moved to Meridian from Spokane)

Noticed Palmetto State Armory had PMC Bronze .223 for 329 a 1000 and Lake City loose packed for 369 a 1000 . Prices are slowly creeping back into reality .

Sheepdog is one of my sponsors for 3 gun competition and I have to say they make some great stuff.  If I thought it was going to fail or not shoot accurately, I wouldn't use it.  He makes some great stuff.  One other thing to remember when you are looking to purchase goods or services.....

If Im not mistaken, Ammotogo had a decent (compared to the last year.5) price on American Eagle M855 Green Tip recently also...around 350 for 1000 rounds of new Green tip isnt bad..though i think it has gone back up the last few days.

I know this post is over a month old, but last time i was at cabelas, they had some PMC bronze for 6.99/20rnd. That breaks it down to 35cents/rnd. I typically compare .223 on a per rnd basis. Anything at 35-37cents a round is pretty damn good.
