.308 bullet question.
« on: January 02, 2010, 05:38:55 PM »
I have recently appropriated several thousand bullets for my reloading enjoyment. What I asked for is questionably not what I got.  I asked for a sizable (7000) quantity of .308 caliber, 173 grain, "pulled bullets".
Upon their arrival (all 7000 of them) it turns out they are FMJ, flat-base, with a copper disc in the base. There is a cannelure, BUT they weigh 163 grains rather than the 173 promised.  I looked up in my gaggle of military TM's any reference to 163 grain bullets and must have missed it somewhere.  .308 AND 30-06 don't list any 163 grain bullets for ball, AP, tracer, etc.
I mike'd them, and the diameter sure enough shows they are for a .308 caliber bore. A magnet didn't even scare them, so that rules out AP.
I got into these DISGUSTINGLY cheap, so I am really hoping I didn't get some super top secret thermo baric rounds.

M2 AP.
Due to my advanced years, I must have missed it in the books.  I thought I read AP was 168 ,upon further inspection, it said 163-168.
