I've been talking about a hog hunt in SE Idaho or Utah for a while.  Damn that looks like a lot of fun.  And those piglets are supposed to be really tasty.

The only ones I've heard of in Idaho are high fence canned hunts, boring. Rg has been hog hunting with a bow maybe he could steer us in the right direction. I know they have problems with them in Cali but the folks that have them charge you to hunt  while bitching to the DNR about the damage they do, not to mention who wants to go to commyfornia.

where I came from in commiefornia, we had all kinds of wild pigs, it was pretty common to go to a friends house for a wild pig roast on a monthly basis. good eating, as well as the piglets.

Pig hunting in texas is supposed to be one of those "high volume" hunting experiences.  I like spotting and stalking as much as the next guy, but I would love to help a farmer out with some bacon blasting.

Where'd you hunt in Cali, Technique?  Looks to be up north.

Hollister Ca. on a 10,000+ acre privately owned ranch..The ranch also landlocked a ton of BLM. We could go from the ranch on to there too.
That place was so full of pigs it wasn't even funny. This ranch was located near a large farming area. The hogs would travel out to the farming areas mainly when there was barley...We would catch them going to and from farms to bedding like clockwork. I had a spot I called "the meat locker". We could on average see 100+ hogs on any given evening or morning. Just sit up on a hill and spot, find one we liked (I like meat pigs more than trophy pigs) then make a stock.

I like using that .458 SOCOM on em...so naturally I get in close. With a high power rifle it would be too easy. I like to get in close enough to smell them, and feel the snort an breath before I shoot them. Its an adrenaline rush!

The argued over who killed it for months. It was a first hog...for both of em.

Does the land owner charge a fee to hunt there or does he want the pigs managed? I'd go, but the idea of paying somebody to take care of their nuisance animals is kinda revolting. Got the same problem with the ranchers here in Idaho that bitch to the F&G to get depredation hunts on or near their property and then charge hunters a "trespass" fee.

Oh yeah...we paid! Annually and it was for several of us. Thats Ca. though. BLM sucks out there and it is rare to be productive on the BLM, most of it is heavy traffic off road, dirtbike, ATV...recreation users.

But we were able to use the land at our leisure for pig, deer, upland game, yotes...etc.

However...that landlocked BLM is full of hogs because no one can get to it for recreation...there is an Airfield near by an IIRC a guy that is willing to taxi folks in and out via helicopter. So hunting would be free...helicopter taxi sounds like an expense though.
