Before I pull the Trigger?
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:40:47 AM »
Before I pull the trigger (yes, bot literally and figuratively), I would like to know if any of you folks has ever shot an FN AR?  I am in absolute love with this epic piece of machinery, but I don't know anyone who has one, and before I spend 1600.00, I kind of wanted some input.  All of the reviews I have read say they are excellent rifles, but one reviewor stated they would rather have an AR-10.  Again, any input would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

I carried an FN M16A4 everyday for several months.  Shot it, slept with it, dragged it through mud, sand, water, muck, snow, etc. and never had any issues with reliability or accuracy.  I would say go for it if that's what you really want as they're good rifles.  The price tag seems steep to me considering you can get a teir 1 AR for less, but it sounds like you've fallen in love with the FN.

The guy who said he'd rather have an AR10 shouldnt really be considered into your decision process since the AR10 is a totally different beast (size, caliber).

JollyRoger fail repair:

The FN AR is very different than an FN AR15.  It's the new version of a BAR (B AR != FN AR but a new generation).  It's based on the hunting version of the BAR using an SPR barrel.  They are supposed to be very accurate.  Impact has had a couple in stock that I checked out.  The first was a heavy barrel version and I hated it.  The other was much lighter and seemed much easier handling.  Personally I didn't like the stock very much.

Check with Impact and see if they have one you can handle before buying.  ;)

I would have made the same mistake, JollyRoger. Seems like FN could have done better assigning a model number!

So I guess it would be a good idea to compare FN with the ArmaLite and DPMS after all.

Here's where it came from (since it probably wasn't clear in my earlier post).  Browning made the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle), FN takes over Browning, FN updates the BAR and calls it the FNAR.
