Years ago, I watched a guy take a (stock) Colt .38 Super (one of my favorite rounds, but I digress....) and do a similar thing.  Kind of.
 He took the pistol, inserted the mag, pointed the pistol up darn near vertical and while slamming his elbow down, brought his knee up and the two met midstream. The impact was evidently enough to charge the weapon.
 I tried it, it hurt like hell, and I never could get it to work.  I watched him do it a couple of times.
  Kinda different.
