Item being reviewed: Camelbac Talon Pack with mods by RedTac Gear
Description of item: I purchased the Talon approximately 18 months ago and over all found it to be a great pack except for one short fall-no waist/kidney belt. That made the pack not so fun to carry for extended periods with full loads. The pack has adequate internal room to function as a BOB but when loaded out I found that carrying some of the weight on my hips would make the pack much more useful. When Redman* joined BS I shot him a PM describing what I wanted and he was more than willing to oblige. A padded waste belt with adjustment for an ever changing waistline was added. The belt also included additional Molle webbing on both sides for greater attachment area and high quality FASTEX type buckle and ladder locks were used.
Description of review tests:The quality of workmanship on these mods is excellent. It appears in all ways to be original from the factory. Color match is right on. Customer service from RedTac Gear was spot on as well. Redman* maintained coms with me throughout the process making sure that he provided exactly what I wanted. Work was done in a timely manner, my pack was returned to me promptly and the price was more than fair considering the time and effort expended by Redman*. I can't say enough good things about RedTac Gear. Although I don't currently own any of his products I will be purchasing from him in the future for my LRTR based on the quality and craftsmanship demonstrated in the mods he performed on my pack.
Pros:Better weight distribution, more area to attach Molle pouches.
Cons:Should have come from Camelbak with a waist belt already! No cons to the RedTac Gear mods.
Best Uses:BOB, 3 day assault pack, or general tacticool day pack.
Duration Used:Shakedown was a long day of elk hunting. Pack is large enough to carry all the gear I like to take elk hunting, 100oz or 3L of H2O, 35lbs of crap and still has room to spare plus lots of attachment points for Molle pouches and with superior weight distribution now it was a pleasure to carry all day. Load stays stable while negotiating difficult terrain.
