"V"
« on: November 02, 2009, 08:29:36 AM »
I'm watching the reruns of the old Sci Fi tv series  "V" in preparation for the new "V"series starting tomorrow.  Amazing parallels to what is going on in the world today!  Coincidence?

What's the show about, i.e., what's the premise?  Also, is the new series supposed be like the old one?

You can read the full synopsis here.

Quote
A race of aliens arrive on Earth in a fleet of 50 huge, saucer-shaped motherships, which hover over major key cities across the world. They reveal themselves on the roof of the United Nations building in New York City, appearing human but requiring special glasses to protect their eyes and having a distinctive resonance to their voices. Simply referred to as the Visitors, they reach out in friendship, ostensibly seeking the help of humans to obtain chemicals and minerals needed to aid their ailing world. In return, the Visitors promise to share their advanced technology with humanity. The governments of Earth accept the arrangement, and the Visitors, commanded by their leader John and his deputy Diana, begin to gain considerable influence with human authorities.

I enjoyed watching the original quite a bit when I was a kid.  Can't remember it well enough to speak on the parallels between that and the current state of affairs, but I'm looking forward to catching the new one.

The Aliens come in as friends promising all kinds of new stuff for us in exchange for some of our natural resources.  They make up stuff about our scientists holding back information and disease cures then setup some "Terrorist Acts" by the Scientist to declare martial law on us.

As I recall from the original series, weren't they lizards disguised as humans?

Yes. And here to steal fresh water.

Watched the new series premiere tonight.  Not too sure about it.  I guess you can retread shit.  But it's still shit.  Time will tell.

It seems like the same story updated and with some changes in characters (for example, the human woman "leader" is FBI as opposed to a scientist in the original).  The dumb girl that got knocked up in the original was so damn dumb I couldn't stand a scene with her in it so I hope they do something different with her.

A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Yes, I was dissapointed that they didn't lead up to the protests and "terrorism" better than they did.  Almost like there was no reason for it.  Was interesting about the "Sleeper Cell" aliens though.  I'll give it a couple of more episodes before thumbs down.  The original first episode was better than this in my opinion.

"Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care..."

I don't remember much of the old series, but I remember enjoying it.  I'll have to set my DVR, hopefully they'll rerun the pilot episode and I can catch up.

I don't know what to think. I remember the original pretty well. But the first episode of the new series really threw me off. Everything happened so stinkin fast. In the original it took awhile before you saw even a glimpse of alien skin. But this seems like it's rushed to show you how it's all done. And after the alien ship stopped over the city. How in the F*ckin Hell did those armed military troops get there so fast. That was just so far unrealistic. And they already new there orders? PooooP!!! The acting is pretty cheesy still. I don't know folks....Seems like hollywood is tanking bigtime. Look at Transformers 2...Crap! Someone wasn't gettin laid when they made that movie. It shows in the product...Humping aliens...chihuahua's bonin boxer's....Lame!!!!

I watched the first and second episodes also, and noticed all the "holes" in the first script.  I have an idea the original script for the first episode was probably a two hour script with much more clarification or "setup" of what had happened previous to what we saw in the first episode, rather than the one hour segment we saw.  I'd take a guess that someone.. or a "committee" upstairs in the network administration, decided to just encapsulate some stuff from the two hours into a one hour episode, therefore the "rush" and the "holes."

I'll guess they had the writer, Scott Peters, rewrite the two hour show to fit into the one hour format.  That is not unusual in the teeeveee racket.  It also saves one helluva lot of money on all those extra scenes.

Looked that way to me, anyway.  ;)

I guess we could all look at it in another light. The Visitor's are a united organization...like our Government..

1. So, the Visitor's are promising to make you all better and have the latest in medical technology..
Our Government wants to give you the same thing.
2. The Visitor's regulate what can be said in the media...i.e. CNN,MSNBC etc. (Don't make them look bad)
    The Government...same thing!!
3. The Visitor's just want to take over and rule the world, or just plain exterminate all that are oppossed to there cause
    The Government...same thing!!
4. The People are organizing to fight the Vistor's and take back what is our's...Our Freedom!!
We the People of the United States of America..Same thing!! We love our Tea Parties...Down with Obama!!

So we can clearly see the similarities in how this show somehow slipped through someones fingers in Hollywood...
Cause this is totally against what they are trying to bring light too...  Just my 2 pence!!
