Need some Gunsmithing Assistance?
« on: October 28, 2009, 08:33:57 AM »
Do any of you folks know of a reputable gunsmith in Boise?  I have this semi-auto .380 Davis (Davison?) Arms Model POS (really, the thing is junk), but I would like to get it working.  You can arm the weapon, but when you go to pull the trigger, not a damn thing happens.  If I squeeze and hold the trigger, the hammer eventually drops.  Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there 911, we are the premiere gunsmith shop in the valley but you would have to come out to Nampa. Your assesment of the Davis quality is spot on but we are here to serve. It might be as much as 40-60 to fix ( hard to really tell without seeing it) but expect that and then expect the gun to fail, probably, not too far in the future again. The parts just aren't up to snuff, but agaain we are here to help. check out rkgunsmithing.com for all our info.

My .02 worth... get rid of it and get a Bersa Thunder .380 or some other decent quality firearm that won't fail you when you need it.  Spending $50 or $60 on a POS that is worth less than what you'll spend to fix it is like flushing money down the toilet.  Maybe RK will give you something for it towards buying a pistol from his shop?

Well.......here's my NORMAL policy on all those wonderful firearms,
1) Greet customer
2) Try not to scold customer for buying and or owning said gun
3) gently offer fine customer $10 (ten) bucks for they're gun and then let them watch me crush in my 12 ton press
4) offer fine customer water or soda as peace offering to cool down after offer (3)
5) thank fine customer for the great decision they made to allow me to crush said gun.
6) reassure customer they made the right choice and help them into a real gun...Bersa is one of those better guns yes.
7) Thank them AGAIN for supporting they're local gunshop and Boise Shooter supporter.

Damn you guys are funny!  You know what?  I decided to not even look up the company who made this particular gun, but I could tell just from looking at the damn thing that it is an absolute disgrace to firearms.  I mean, come on!  You guys should see how shiny this thing is!  What's even more funny, is that my bro gave me one of his gun safes, when I cracked the thing open, there was this .380 POS sitting dead in the middle of the safe.  When the sunlight hit it, I thought it was the holy grail! Little did I know!! LOL!!!!  Popsgunner - are you guys open on weekends?

Idaho_Gun_Nut - have you shot the Bersa Thunder?  I have heard good things about them, but don't anyone who owns one.  Not that I collect .380's or anything, but they are pretty damn fun to shoot.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

My wife had a Bersa Thunder - it was a great little weapon.  Never a problem with it.  Ended up getting her a revolver instead - she felt better about those - less to go wrong I guess.

I wish we still had it - and given the right cash flow I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up again.

I bought a Bersa Thunder as a gift for an old girlfriend years ago.  It was a great little pistol, super accurate and functioned perfectly.  If I was to ever carry a small caliber piece I would not hessitate to buy another one!

The angels didn't start singing, if they did, maybe they could have placed a better quality weapon there instead of that piece of scrap metal!

I couldn't recommend... well the forum guy.
However I would recommend, Buckhorn they're a bunch of really good guys.
Also, I would HIGHLY recommend Clint Goss out of Pocatello.
Outstanding individual and more than fair.

Quite simple... can't recommend if I haven't had work completed.
If I had negative work completed... that would have been stated.

I've used Buckhorn twice and got the bait and switch treatment both times (gas block install on an AR and trigger job on Ruger 77). Quoted one price and ended up paying significantly more than the quoted price to get my gun back. For what I paid for the Ruger trigger job I could have installed a top end adjustable trigger myself. One of the smiths there is a personal friend of mine so I thought I'd be safe from this kind of crap. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on you. I won't use their services anymore. >:(

RK is an honest, good business man that won't selling you something you don't want/need. His prices are good. There is a reason his business has grown so big so fast.

My 2 cents.
