Hey wolf hunters - thought I'd pass this along. While up at Thorne Creek Butte this past weekend, we saw a good amount of wolf sign and even saw what we believe to have been a juvenile wolf on his own. He was very tall, but quite skinny. My guess is that the pack bitch kicked him out and he's trying to figure out how to live on his own. He ran from us pretty quickly, indicating to me that he'd been shot at before.
There is a documented pack up there. The snow is making it much easier to track them. The top was covered with wolf tracks. They were following game trails. One night they were very active in their calling and it sounded like there were several out there. They were very excited. My guess is that they had found a gut pile. What ever the reason, they were much to close to my camp for my liking!

I'd have to wonder if putting out a cow elk decoy, using some estrus for scent and some cow calls (in distress) wouldn't bring them in.
Anyway, for what it's worth...
