Survival Straps - paracord accessories
« on: October 09, 2009, 03:00:58 PM »
Kind of a cool idea.  You can get slings belts, watch bands, etc. made from braided paracord.  All of them can be unwound if needed into single cord lengths that vary depending on the product.  I know paracord is already a staple for BOBs, packs, and other preparedness and general use kits, but this give one more option on having it around when needed.

Most (all?) of this stuff you can make yourself.  Plans are all over the internet.  I've made some myself.  Key fobs and bracelets mostly.
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

I'll have to check it out and see what's involved.  I'm pretty lazy though ::)  More than anything else, I had not thought of weaving the cord up to do things like slings and belts and thought it was a good idea.

The price is steep, but then again cord doesn't braid itself.  Here's a youtube video for a little motivation:

ITS Tactical has some done a few other decorative knots.

Post revival!

Anybody know a local source to purchase the little 3/16" stainless shackles? I see them on the web at marine supply places but was curious if any where here in Boise had them.

If I'm thinking of the same thing you are, I was never able to find any locally.  I checked Army/Navy and they had some stuff that was close.  The RV place I stopped at didn't know what I was talking about.  I ended up using some that I found at Lowe's: http://www.boiseshooters.com/index.php/topic,9606.msg60308.html#msg60308

Ambush Tactical had some blackened snap shackles for 1" webbing a month or so back.
