Browning HP
« on: October 14, 2007, 08:43:12 AM »
I'm thinking of selling my HP in .40S&W.  Any idea what its worth?  It has a little wear from trips to the range.  I've put around 2000 rounds (mostly WWB) through it with few problem (2 were hand loads of incorrect length, 1 Wolf ammo).  I've put a set of Pachy full wrap around grips on it.  I've still got the original wood grips.  I've also removed the mag safety and I don't know I still have the parts to put it back in.

I'm looking at replacing it with something like a S&W Mod 29 mountain gun...something a little heavier than a .40 for back woods carry.

Thoughts in what I should expect for the HP?

Piece of worn out second rate hunk of metal.

While you might get $50 for parts and recycle I'll give you $100 just to save you the headache... ;)

As with anything.. it depends on what it's worth to both you and the buyer?

I found three on gunbroker.  Prices ranged from $750 to $675.  I would assume if you put it back to factory specs it would fetch more than in it's present condition.

I'm not so sure I'd need to put the mag safety back.  It is one of the first things to go with a lot of HP owners.  I'll try to find the parts all the same.

Looking at those, they have changed the adjustable sights on the standard model since I got mine.  I'm pretty sure my rear sight is much higher than those.  There is only a dovetail cut from the slide as on the Mk III.
