I was thinking since we are all preparing for when the SHTF I am curious what others think will happen. I know none of us can predict for sure how things will go down. But I thought it might be helpful for us to hear each others ideas on how we potentially think it could go down? I thought hearing others perspectives might helps us prepare better for scenarios we may not have considered or given much weight to?

So what do you think might trigger it, how will the government react or even perhaps escalate it whether unintentionally or even intentionally, and how will people react etc. etc. I realize it is mostly speculation but the more we can anticipate ahead of time the better we may be able to cope when it does happen.

I lay odds on dollar collapsing , once China drops the dollar.

Unless we see war break out that starts to involve major world players...

Or we see any number of excuses / events used as a false flag to dismiss Congress and we see martial law or dictatorial power implemented.

Second thought I would like to see it be a dollar collapse be the way it goes down after thinking about the alternatives.

Check out the 6 part Gerald Celente interview (done about 2 weeks ago) on  http://www.shtfplan.com/forecasting/gerald-celente-christmas-crash-get-ready-for-the-collapse-to-come-very-quickly_09232009.

Particularly listen to part 6 - the summary of when and how the economy fails.

I agree with a down economy setting the stage for the SHTF.  Local (city or county) access to resources (water, power, food, gas) will trigger the most commonly envisioned "SHTF" scenario.  Barring those circumstances, it will happen so slowly one day you'll pause for a second and realize that the world as you knew it growing up ended some time ago.

If people don't get to fed up with the idiots in office first, I would say the Dollar Collapsing would be the final straw.

We should all pray (or if atheist, think positive thoughts) that those laid off will adapt and overcome, whether or not the SHTF has occurred (or will occur).  I think of these people daily, because I've been there - several times, in fact.

That happened to me a long time ago.  Incrementalism is a bitch.

The economy is going to shit the bed.  Soon?  Maybe.  I wish I had a crystal ball.

I am not quite to the point of SHTF living and have been laid off since May . Luckily I didn't refi my home and suck out all the equity or buy a truck with a 600 dollar a month payment so I have spent this time beefing up some of my preperations and have actually increased the size of my long term food storage and put up a bunch of firewood to keep my home warm this winter . I do have to say that having good friends helped make all of that possible so having that network in place before things go south should be part of everyones plan as making a go of it alone could be very difficult .

Ahmadinejad orders dollar to be replaced by Euro

PUBLISHED: 2009/09/21 09:28:31 AM

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - Reuters.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ordered Iran’s foreign currency reserves, currently in US dollars, to be replaced by the euro, Press TV reported.

The order was issued following a decision by the trustees of the country’s foreign reserves, the state-run news channel says this morning.

At the same time, Iran is to be one of the issues discussed by this thursdays’ meeting of leaders of the 15-member council.

It’s also the first time a US president chairs the UN’s top decision-making body - and as Washington increases pressure on Tehran over it’s nuclear plans.

There will be a separate two-day conference designed to breathe new life into a treaty that bans the testing of nuclear weapons.

The United States is one of nine countries with nuclear technology that is still blunting the entry into force of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. The US never ratified the treaty, but Obama is giving it a second chance by pushing hard for the Senate’s approval.

Attending the council meeting along with Obama will be some of the world’s most powerful leaders, including presidents Hu Jintao of China, Nicholas Sarkozy of France, Dmitry Medvedev of Russia and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Others include new Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and Libya’s leader Moammar Gaddafi.

A draft Security Council resolution submitted by the US urges all states to refrain from conducting nuclear test explosions and to sign and ratify the CTBT, “thereby bringing it into force at an early date.” The draft, which is expected to be approved by the world leaders at the council meeting Thursday, also upholds the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which will come under review in 2010.

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will lead a separate conference on CTBT at UN headquarters on Thursday and Friday. She will join foreign ministers from more than 100 governments.

The high-profile US presence has given hope to disarmament advocates that global efforts to end nuclear explosions and rid the world of nuclear weapons will finally gain traction

Given techonology being so interconnected and instant....I can see how this could happen.

I would recommed keeping a min. amount in your bank and always keep the gas tanks full and always know how you will spend the last couple thousand of what will become worthless TP.

Ah, yes, voting!  That's the solution!  That's worked so far...ahem...er...ummmm...yeeeeaaaahhhh.  It's worked about as good as a wheelbarrow with bricks for wheels!  We need a mulligan, damnit!  That's right, a mulligan; a redo, a start over.  We need to clean the offices of all currently seated politicans out and put people who are average-Joe, working class folks.  (Yes, like you and I).  That would be a damn good start.  Not to mention putting the kebash on all taxes and doing away with PAC's.  That, my friends, would be a good start!

The USA population was just under 100 million in 1910.  It's about 300 million now.  So, I would assume if the carrying capacity of the USA declined by 2/3 then so would the population.  So, anyone want to think about how it would be during a die-off of 200 million people in the USA?

Not to be morbid, but a guy could make a lot of money by investing in a backhoe or smallish excavator.
