Federal 200rd 223 Rem for $77 @ Wal-Mart
« on: September 20, 2009, 01:52:54 PM »
Just an hour ago I saw dozens of boxes of Federal 200rd Value Pack 223 Rem. 50gr JHP at the Overland/Vinnell Wal-Mart. Don't know if it's been in stock a while or not but first time I've stumbled over it. It's not behind the counter, it's over on the accessories wall display.

Anybody tried this? I need to pick up some ammo now that my AR build is nearly done. It would just be used to plink and zero on paper targets. Pretty light stuff but with a JHP but should be ok in a slower twist barrel.

Also, Cabelas has PMC 223 Rem. 55gr FMJ for about $9 a box. I've heard it's ok, anybody like or dislike it?

I haven't shot the 50JHP but have shot the 50SP and like it.
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Thanks Jeff, guess I'd better pick up a box. Decent price for name brand ammo for new gun break in if nothing else.

Impact has the same PMC for the same price if that's a difference such as location etc.

I've shot the PMC 55grn FMJ before.

Good Ammo.
America is at an awkward stage, it's too late to work within the system, and to early to shoot the bastards.

The 50gr JHP works fine if you are running a 1:9 twist and a 14.5" + barrel.

I was running some of the 50gr JHP in my 10.5" 1:7 twist barrel and it was yawing so badly that I was striking the front of my PWS FSC556 brake. Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn at 25 yards because of the deflection caused by hitting the front of the brake. Glad I didn't have a suppressor on there.

Thanks for the first had info, guys. I also picked up a little of the PMC 55gr FMJ. Sounds like it and the Federal should work ok in my 16" with 1:9" twist.
