Pheasant hunters?
« on: September 28, 2007, 11:27:47 PM »
Are there any pheasant hunters in the group?  I lost my bird dog to cancer this Summer and I didn't think I'd want to go.  Damn good dog.  Way too young.  He was only seven.

However, I just got done watching some episodes of Bid Dogs Forever and I think I'm going to have to find a way to get into the field.  Any of you have a good dog and not mind another gun?

i have been working with my lab but he has not any formal training, and seems to do pretty good with dove and quail. There arent many good pheasent spots around here (Mtn Home) other then the WMA areas. but if you dont mind the drive i could always use an extra gun.

We used to work Montour, Trueblood, and occasionally Strike.  I don't mind the drive.

You don't need a lot of training for upland game.  Basic obedience, recall, some hand signals and/or whistle commands, and fetch.

My father in-law has a Farm near the sporting clays place in Homedale . I used to abandon my wife from Aug. 31 through the end of January to kill birds out at his place . I would invite some of you along but the Mother in-law makes me feel so unwelcome that I don't hardly go anymore . Its to bad really as I used to drive out , shoot my limit and be back home in time to watch Football .

I use to do a lot of Pheasant hunting back in NY.  It's been some years but I'd love to get back into it.
