Remington 45 gr. HP
« on: September 26, 2007, 08:31:34 PM »
Just did a quick range session with the scope spiff lent me, while I was there I walked out to retreive my target, AR in hand...

Got close, 10' out and did a quick doubletap on an open target and this was the result.

I shot it a few more times to duplicate.  muzzle 2' off target produced only powder specks. definate sweetspot of 10' to produce it,  weird, I've never seen this before, looks like comet trails.

I've seen that before with exposed lead tip bullets.  It is interesting that a hollow point is doing it.

LP,

Took my AR out yesterday to testfire in it's latest configuration which included a trigger job and I got some 2 and 3 round bursts.  It's never done that before, but I did notice that it happened more often when I really concentrated on my trigger squeeze.  Is it just firing subsequent rounds under recoil, or is the sear actually not hooking up?  The trigger is awesome and I really don't want to change it out. ???

At the SHOT show the guys from Sabre said my trigger is a Jard, so sweet I don't want to mess with it either

No, it doesn't.  On step  d. the hammer falls when I release the trigger.  Crap!

Bummer, What trigger is it? adjustable sear/ disconnect?  are you sure it is missing the disconnector & falling to the firing pin?

I got an extra trigger kit, but it's a colt large pin

It's a piece that my bud modified for me.  I tried to get some pics for you, but they look like crap.  I've got 2 extra complete FCG's, so that is no biggy, but it such a nice trigger now.  It is a shame that it is Doubling.   :(  Maybe I can use the springs and what not in some combination with a stock hammer/sear/disconnector to achieve something close to this trigger. ???

Try replacing JUST the disconnect, shouldn't affect anything else

I had the same thing happen on an AR of mine when I tried to do a trigger job on the stock hammer/trigger.  It doubled on me repeatedly.  So I spent the money and bought a JP set and decided trigger jobs on stock parts weren't the way to go.

Last night I replaced the hacked up hammer with a stock one.  I kept the DPMS light spring set and disconnecter that were in there and used a fine ceramic stone to polish the face of the trigger and the notch where it engages the hammer.  I inked it up with a sharpy and repeated the operation several times until I got good contact across the two mating surfaces and a fairly polished surface.  The trigger is not as nice as it was with the lighter hammer, but it's certainly better than stock. ;D
