My sister in law has been using the powdered version or similar for years and says it works great and cheap as hell. We've been going to try it but just never got around to it. Be good to at least stock up on the ingredients as part of your preps.

made up a batch of this stuff yesterday, and washed 3 loads, works pretty good. sure beats paying $19 for a 150oz tub of tide that only does 72 loads. it should be noted that top loading machines need to use 1/2 cup per load, side loaders only need 1/4 cup.

I didn't quite like the way it gels and sets up, but I got around this by running it in a cheap blender for a few seconds, and packed it into 1 galllon water jugs, now it has a smooth consistency and pours easily, and hasn't set back up.....yet.

I made some of this a few weeks back works great and it won't gel back up again either. I love the stuff I won't go bact to the old expensive way again

homemade fabric softner... 2 cups hair conditioner, 1 cup white vinegar, 6 cups water

My wife just started making laundry soap and dishwashing detergent. On the latter, our dishes have never been cleaner than when we started with the homemade stuff and using vinegar for the rinse-aid.

Tell me more about the dishwashing soap. It is for the dishwasher? Between this and the laundry soap it will save a good deal of money!

Yes, powdered dishwashing detergent. My wife found a recipe for it and we've been using it in our dishwasher for a few weeks now. It works really well. We also use vinegar for the rinse aid instead of something like jet dry.

So what we've been using for dishwashing detergent is equal parts borax and baking soda. For a full load of dishes, we have been filling the detergent dispenser about half way. Seems to do a better job than the store bought stuff while using less per load.

Me and the wife have been using the laundry detergent for a week now. Just as others have reported all the clothes have been coming out looking and smelling clean...possibly cleaner than the store bought garbage. Plus, it's great with my ultra fair, sensitive and beautiful skin.

Are you sure that there is no danger using the borax for the dish soap?? Apparently it can leave a residue on your dishes and make you sick .

Thanks for posting that JR, I'll investigate an alternative that doesn't use borax. So far we haven't had any problems with it, but I suppose it could in the future.

So, I finally made some of this detergent tonight. Super easy, but the smell of the fels naptha has given me a horrible headache and made me nauseated. Next time I'll have to do this when I can open the windows.

Oh as for not ingesting Borax, the water in dishwashers get hot enough that it is not an issue.

I just took the first load out, and as everyone else has reported, the clothes looked and smelled clean.
