Basic Black Got Camo'd
« on: September 15, 2007, 03:20:34 PM »
In a move designed to simplify my life I had a Basic black rifle built . My 22-250 had run its course and the barrel was toast so I had a proven action . I picked up a Rock Creek barrel in a Remington Varmint contour and had it chambered in .308 by George Vais . We didnt even true the action as George thought it looked pretty decent and that the return on investment would be minimal (ever had a gunsmith talk you out of spending money?) . Barrel length is 22 inches and with a 3-9X40 scope on it comes in under 10 pounds and with my 6.5-20 Leupold it runs around 11 all pimped out with a Blackhawk stock pack etc . It recoils more than my 15 pound sniper rifles ever did which makes it hard to track your shots but is a heck of a lot handier . My plan is to use it as a Tactical/Hunting rifle and see how it goes . During break in 5 shot groups hovered around 1/2 inch and with some load development I am sure I can tighten it up a bit more .

Nothing fancy , no big name builders , just Basic Black .

Looks like a deerslayer.
How/did you mask the turret markings?  Got a closeup?

I need to get busy on mine.
I can't hear you over the sound of my own awesomeness.

I pulled the turrets off and masked them then replaced them for the painting phase . If you have a Leupold just loosen the screw and slip them off . I then used 1/8 inch pieces of masking tape to mask off the markings on the scope body . I did this from start to finish in about a 1/2 hour . Bring your rifle over and we can camo it up as I have all the paint just sitting here . This is the thread on SH that gave me the instructions .... http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=303758&fpart=1

He swapped me a 400 dollar truck bed toolbox to paint his rifles and get them ready for hunting season . I think cleaning a couple rifles and painting them is a fair swap . I just have to keep them here at the house for a week so he doesnt know it only took me a couple hours ....  ;D
