Noveske or White Oak Armament 10.5"?
« on: September 12, 2007, 08:23:29 PM »
Decided to not sell my Ar, and to SBR it instead of getting the MP5 clone I was eyeballing.  Now, I like the idea of a polygonal rifled barrel, but is the match grade 10.5" by WOA able to hold it's own?  Help me decide which barrel to get please ???

In all of my research, I believe them to be relatively equal.  It seems (to me) that among contractors/operators/SF/ninjas Noveske has a better rep and is more known for there rugged quality.  WOA seems to be well accepted for match and target use, good groups right out of the box from everything I've seen.  YMMV as I personally have no real world experience with either barrel.

I would order a 10.5 Noveske thru this guy = http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=220&highlight=noveske.  Good guy, and he builds high quality uppers, too.

Good luck.

ETA: (Personally) I would go with Noveske or LMT...I don't believe that the slight downgrade in accuracy will be that noticable within the standard operating range of a 10.5".

I went with a WO 16" midlength barrel because I wanted the Wylde chamber as opposed to a 5.56. Both manufactures seem to have a good reputation. 5.56 is a larger chamber which makes it harder on brass and I need my brass to last as long as possible. Hopefully I'll get my barrel this week and be able to shoot it this weekend.

FWIW, a 5.56 chamber can be as much as .002" larger in diameter and .002" - .003" larger in length than a .223 chamber. While a few thousandths may not seem like much, it is. Dropping .223 headspace gauges into a 5.56 chamber will make you thing you've got a marginal barrel. For those that don't know, a bolt closing on a "No Go" gauge should raise immediate red flags about the safety of your barrel, and at the very least the accuracy of the barrel. A bolt closing on a "Field" gauge simply means the barrel is dangerous to shoot and should the shelved until a smith can look at it, or you get another barrel.

Thanks for the info guys, I've been leaning towards the Noveske because of the poly rifling.  It's going on the LMT upper I've already got with the 10" Troy rail, and I'm planning on matching it up with the KX3.

My next question was gonna be what can you're gonna use ;)  I like the krink, but that beautiful upper your gonna have is beggin' to be mated with a nice suppressor!

Haha! I only have enough funds for the SBR/ barrel setup right now.  A suppressor is the next item on the list, it will definitely be a two stamp firearm ;D  -Thanks

I went with a Noveske Recon barrel for my recce build.  The barrel kicks ass, very accurate and the weight isnt bad (I opted for the 'light' profile, which is a bit thicker than gov't).  My vote is Noveske!!

That said...everything I've read or heard on the WOA has been great also.  Jeff S., has been using one on an SPR gun for a while and I know it shoots great.

Bottom line is that I chose Noveske and Spiff chose WOA.  Since I'm way cooler than Spiff you should probably go Noveske like I did.   ;D

For $100 you could form an LLC and forgo the photos and finger prints and speed up your transfers considerably.

I could, but I don't want to spend the extra $100.
