Nate Shelman today - 2A and the pocket knife ban
« on: July 13, 2009, 03:05:55 PM »
Just a heads up in case anybody is interested in listening or calling in.  The teaser for his show today (4pm on 670) asks how all the 2nd amendment gun crowd feels about the issue of banning assisted-opening knives.

I thought it was any knife you could open with one hand?

I wish I could catch that show, will someone give all of us the cliff-note version later?

You're probably right.  It was initially advertised as expanding the switchblade ban to include assisted-opening knives, but could be interpreted broadly to include anything that can be opened with one hand.  It looks like there is an amendment making it's way through congress that would more specifically differentiate switchblades from other knives, even if they are spring assisted.  Here's more related info:

EDIT: Not as much on the knife issue as I thought.  Started with that topic and Risch called in to say that it stems from a creeping bureaucracy; a department wanting to expand their scope.  He also said he was confident the votes were not there to get anything like that passed.  The topic then morphed into a discussion about what the federal government should be focusing their attention on instead of dealing with protecting the country from pocket knives.
