.338 EDGE
« on: August 30, 2007, 05:27:35 PM »
ATTN: EDGE

Last weekend out at parma, who was the fella with the "armor plate"?

or do you know if/where the data collected will be posted?

For those of you wondering WTF I'm talking about...

After the IDPA shoot the everyone headed over to the clubhouse for some .338 edge action.  First target to shoot was 3/8" armor plate @ 50 yards with a 300SMK @ 2850ish.

The hole looked like it was done with a cookie cutter.  As a comparison, .308 put a mar on the surface.

It was unreal

If it is the ceramic plates used in Iraq those are only rated for three 7.62x.39  10cm apart.

So anything with significant more power will blast a hole.

Not many of those camel jockeys are using anything even close to a .338 edge.

All I want to know is, will it penetrate a blue helmet a half mile away?

Some of the plate is mild steel for shot gun and pistol, some of the plate is 240,
while the 500 brinell is 8x8 or IDPA style steel targets. A 300 win mag with 200 SMK with 3000fps at the muzzle shot at 25yards will not mar the 500 brinell plate.

LP,

I don't know the name of the guy.  He was a friend of Neill's and I just happened to be there at the right time to drill that hole for him.  ;D

It wasn't 500 Brinell, I think it was 500 Bisplate or some other weird name that I'd never heard before.

Do you want me to get ahold of Neill and ask him who that guy was?
