Last time I was in Cliff's he also had a sign he was only selling primers if you bought bullets or powder.

Price??
All data is flawed, some just less so.

$4/100 or $35/1k, supplies are not so tight as they were,so the restrictions on numbers and other stipulations for purchase have been lifted.

Is that Cliffs price?  Last time I was in there he was still gouging at $6/100.  Won't be going back there for awhile.  I try to shop at the little guys place, but that only goes so far.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you don't get Winco prices at the Jackson's down the street from your house, and you don't get Internet prices at Cliff's.  Cut the guy some slack, he is charging what he has to to stay in business, if you don't like the price buy elsewhere.  Cliff has had a little bit of the stuff that no one else has been able to keep in stock or puts you on back order indeffinitely for, but he pays a premium to get his hands on those items the same as you would during a shortage and he has to charge accordingly to recoup his cost and pay for his store front, payroll, etc.

Yeah its starting to sound like a bunch of bitchy highschool girls around here:

"Like O  M  G  that Cliff guy TOTALLY gouges people..."
"Ohmygod! Like I know, TOTALLY!"
"He is the only guy in town with powder and he's totally uppping the price!!"
"I know, its so lame!! He should totally just give it to me for the price I want!!"

Lets Talk about price gouging!  How about 40.00 bucks for a plastic G@D D@IVI mag that costs less than 15 most of the time and should never be more that 20.  There are plenty of folks on here that say that guy kicks a$$ and is just the nicest guy and just the best person ever to do business with.  You know what he is a nice guy, he's a dam nice guy.  I wouldn't buy "that" mag from him because I'd still have a 6 hour drive to get home and wouldn't want to be in that position for that long after an experiance like that.  If you want to feel sorry for someone paying to much for primers, other than yourself, how about those folks paying $100.00/K in Texas?

I like Cliff's because when I dirve those 6 hours to come down and pick up stuff, I don't want them to tell me they can order it for me.  I can order it.  And if I do I can usually get it for less then they can.  If I go to a store to buy something it's because I either want it or need it right now.  I also don't want to stand in front of the gun counter next to the cash register for 15 minutes looking at the "customer service representitive" running his G.. D.. mouth about a bunch of stupid "S" to the guy he just sold $15 worth of product and I'm trying to buy a $1300 rifle.  I'm not saying he needed to blow the homer simpson wannabe off but have him hold on for a sec and ask my if what I want.  If thats to much to ask make the rifle rack open access and I'll sever myself.  Thanks.

So why buy it from a store if you can buy it cheeper than they can?  If you are set up as a jobber, we all need to be buying from you.  I am just a dumb SHOPKEEP that  has to buy from wholesalers!

Damn Dude!  Tear it up!  I don't think that your intended target on the "40.00 bucks for a plastic G@D D@IVI mag" quite got the point, but I know who your talkin 'bout.  See you tomorrow bro.

Well I "try" to but it depends on my need/want verses cost/shipping.  Also maybe I can’t get “it” for less then they can, rather, less than what they sell it for.

I wouldn't call any successful shopkeeper dumb, unless you mean that's because you were crazy enough to put yourself through that in the first place.  My “price gouging” comment was meant to come across as sarcastic.  I realize what you have to put up with just dealing with customers and I guess that's more of were my rant came from.  Its hit and miss right now with a lot of things and you guys have to pay, what you have to pay, to get the products your customers want.  That gets passed on to them, naturally.  I guess what I was trying to say was that its up to the customer to ensure they get a the deal they want.  If one shop has low prices but no product and the next shop has higher prices but product on the shelf it is up to the buyer to decide if they want to wait or "buy it now".  The buyer needs to realize that if there is a shortage then the shopkeeper will have to pay more to get the stuff on the shelves sooner, if at all.  How is that gouging?  The storeowner can charge what ever makes his hart go pitter pat.  From my perspective it would take a lot for me to spend $40 on a mag I think is only worth $15.  Have I spent that much before?  Yup, I didn't like it.  Will I do it again?  I hope I don't have to.  Would I bitch about the price and feel like I took it in the short hairs.  Of course and I might even talk a little trash about you because I wasn't quick enough on the draw to get me crap in one stack to begin with and got my feelings hurt.  Then one day down the road I might mature enough to admit that sometimes things just cost what the cost at any given time and that’s just supply and demand.  It could be a G.. D.. kraut sucking German mag for 60 bucks, or more, and if I needed it bad enough, I'd pay.  I see it the same for someone has to pay a price for 8 Lbs. of powder, that can’t be found anywhere else, at a store and it’s the same cost as ordering it through the mail.  How is that gouging?  I see gouging as a seller pricing an item much higher than is considered reasonable or fair while at the same time being the only source for that product.

Frankly I find it funny to listen to the Bla Bla crying about not getting ammo, components, etc.  Because the only people that are crying are the people who are so short sided to only buy what they need.  Guess what they will always be subject to the market.  I shoot machine guns, i use alot of ammo, I'm not cry'in.  People wake up buy what you can when you can and keep a 3yr stock.  Duh, it's kinda like a savings account.  When this bubble breaks it will be no different than the housing market.  Cheaper ammo and components!

Well I have visited all the stores in Boise area, (save Nampa); I Met Cliff today and we talked for some time. Nobody likes the high cost of things these days, (even Cliff), especially those of us on fixed incomes. I understand his business philosophy and the fact he seems to try and keep something for everyone.

I found his demeanor personable and professional, sometimes lacking in today's world. I think giving the conditions we all are suffering from, and/or guilty of, we will have to independently decide what's best for each of us and go our merry way. As for me, I plan to do some business with Cliff.

I started doing business with Cliff back when he was over by the Hastings at the 5 Mile Plaza.  That was awhile back.  I go in his place and shake my head at some of the prices, but that causes no hard feelings toward him from me.  If I think it is too much, I won't buy.  I have a good supply of stuff set aside, so I am not in the bind some are.  I remember reading Dean Grennell's advice years ago about how powder and primers were what kept us in business, and it isn't hoarding if you accumulate the stuff while it is in good supply.  It made sense to me, so I have always kept a good stock of what I need on hand.  This current situation will likely pass, just as the primer panic in the 90's did.  I'd suggest learning from this shortage and behaving accordingly when it finally ends.

In defense of Cliff, I've called him when he was closed for reloading parts.  He has always accommodated me.  Usually, I'm looking for something not commonly carried like 45-70 dies or brass.  He usually has them.  Yes, you pay a premium but let's face it.  If he weren't there, where would you go?
