Trigger reset
« on: May 28, 2009, 12:23:14 PM »
After assembling my lower a while back, a LAR receiver and Double Star LPK, I found during the function check that it does not reset unless the trigger is pushed forward.  At first I thought maybe it needed to be lubricated and that it was just sticky, but that didn't help.  I'm not sure if I should take a metal file to it or if normal wear would make it better.  Anybody run into this or have a recommendation to fix it?

Might want to check if you installed the springs correctly and also check your hammer etc to see if it is engaging or binding on something inside.

Sounds like the trigger spring might be in backwards or the ends of your hammer spring could be
wedged between the coils on the trigger spring instead of sitting on the outside of the trigger
spring.  A pic of the inside of your lower, from the top down, would help if that doesn't work.
You shouldn't have to file anything.  If you remove to much material from the disconnector you
can have a runaway gun.  Besides the inner parts are hardened and you can ruin a good file, or a
bad one for that matter, quick.  At the most polish the engagement surfaces with a stone to
remove any burrs.  Hope this helps.

I'll take a pic or two later tonight if I have time before leaving for pizza.  I'm pretty sure I have the springs in correctly but as it is the first I have assembled, I could be wrong.  The point on the disconnecter where it contacts the hammer feels like it might have an edge on it.  My first guess was that it was enough to bind slightly.  Beyond that, it appears that everything functions correctly.

Forgot to tell you that they have exploded views on Brownell's web site for reference.  I heard the gunsmith down there at Shooting World is a good guy to work with but I haven't talked to him myself.

Where is Shooting World?

It's Impact Guns now. The gunsmith is a member here. I think he's DuckKiller88. ;)

I tried to take a couple of pics but they turned out poorly.  Not sure if you will be able to see anything useful, but until I can get clearer shots I'll post what I have.

I followed the directions at ar15.com when it was assembled. Other than an extra detent and detent spring that were in the lpk, I had no extra parts. I'm confident everything is in there that should be. I will still double check positioning and orientation of the springs.

It looks like you have the guts in right.  I'd try getting rid of that rough spot you were talking about and go from there.  I've had that show up before and it's a pisser >:(.

I'd take it down to Impact and have Chase take a look at it to diagnose it.  Hard to tell without having it in hand.

1.  take out the hammer.
2.  diagnose if at this point it resets by itself
3.  ??
4.  Profit!
