Ammo shortage getting better?
« on: May 16, 2009, 09:38:45 PM »
I found 2 boxes of 9mm at the Eagle Rd Wally's this morning at 9:30 AM. And it looks like sites are keeping 7.62x39 in stock longer. Is the "shortage" getting better?

It's basic supply/demand/panic buying.  Simply put, it will get better.  If you can wait to buy ammo, wait.

I'm seeing a lot more stuff available online now than a few months ago.

Hmm. Must be way more "tin foil hatters" than anyone thought. Maybe they are mainstream now and the "normal" people can be the topic of derision and negative generalization. :-\

It must be, the other day I went to a Walmart that is regularly out of stock.

I grabbed their last box of .308s, but they must have had 12 boxes of .223 Remington UMCs.

Yup, the Mountain Home wally world had Remington UMC .223 also. Picked up 4 boxes to break in my new Stag M4 upper. No pistol ammo though. 8)

seems at first rifle ammo disappeared, then people switched focus to handgun, the last 4-5 times i've been in chinamart (over the last month) they've had decent amounts of .223 (all 55grain at about .50 a round) and some AK ammo, but virtually no handgun.

Yeah and more specifically the .223/5.56 stuff disappeared, then the 7.62.

If it getting out it does not last long small amounts show up and
none for the most part, they did put a limit on just two boxes....
 Maybe a good idea........

I have enough stuff to hunker down and last several years but I feel for the guys that don't reload or at least have a pile of ammo sitting in the garage . Hopefully it gets better before the economy completely takes a nose-dive and we can no longer afford ammunition at all . I will be out trading 5 bullets for 5 beans .... LOL

You mean that I can purchase more rounds without it costing two arms and two legs. Now, it just costs an arm and a leg. :-)

Nope It still costs two arms and two legs, it just costs a toenail less now...

joking aside every time I see shops get in any bulk packs of brass cased .223 it's all gone in under a week.

More than likely shooters in Calli will start panic buying before this goes into effect.

Yup, Cabelas has most calibers and good selections.  Even the bulk packs of .22 LR.  But, the prices are definitely a few dollars higher per box than 6 months or a year ago!

I scored well with a couple of boxes of Winchester 9mm JHP (50 count) for $20, which is a good buy for JHPs.
