Went to Cabelas today just to look around and pickup a new holster... and some of their yummy almonds. So, they're having a "gun library" sale going on and I decide to wander through what they have... knowing I probably wouldn't find anything I could afford.
When, on the second rack I look at is one of these
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1917_Enfield_rifle - the Remington version. I already have the Winchester version, which was my grandfathers, passed to my dad, to me, and now to my son. I loved shooting it. So, here's it's identical twin, also sporterized and in 30-06, but with the peep sites on it. I can't remember the make of the sites at the moment.
$299... looked to be in very good condition. The bore appeared to be very good. I couldn't detect any pitting. Action worked well... no catches or hesitations on the bolt. The whole thing could use a new bluing, but still, it wasn't bad. No rust or dings. The hardwood stock was a tad rough, but nothing a good sanding and refinishing wouldn't fix in a hurry. So, $80.00 later, I put it on layaway.
