Badger !!
« on: August 04, 2007, 04:54:11 PM »
He finally showed up, on our front porch this morning.

I was geting ready to stalk a coyotoe at the other end of the property and had my hands full heading out the door. And their he was on the front porch.

He took off, for a moment it was what to use, I had a .40 on my side, a 410 with #4 loads and a .22lr with a scope set at 75 yards.

After he came out from under the van and ran across the yard I decided to see what 410 would do .

At 25 feet it entered the hind quarter and exited the front sholder. Some shots must have traveled inside and they came out the front knee blowing it apart. And some of the came out the jaw.

410 with #4 would be more than enough for small mammels and even a coyotoe up close.

Anybody know a good cheap taxidermist?  I called one guy and he wanted $110 for a basic leather tanning.

Or else I will order some chemicals and do it myself.

Feather & Fur did my teal for $30.  Nice old guy.  I don't know whether he's still in business though.  He was talking of retiring.  His number is listed as 208-562-8085.

Thanks Farlo, called him and several Taxidermy company's in town.

Same price $110 for just haveing the hide tanned.  Having been calling several companies and they all have about the same pricing...

Fake skull and eyes, mounted to a felt 'blanket' anywhere from $225 to $450 :o

They all send the hides out for tanning, a couple even said no one they know of does the tanning in the valley.

So I could probally hunt down these industrial tanners and save some money.

Or I might buy some chemicals and do it my self.

The hide is in the freezer for now, which is what they all have said to do.

Off to the library this afternoon to start reading.

He quoted me $100 for my teal.  When he finished it he said $40.  When I picked it up, the bill was $30.  Decent mount, no complaints.

Nice one NGO!!  I may know a guy at work who's wife and he have been tanning and stuffing for a while now.  If he didnt get laid off I'll talk to him tomorrow for you.

I'm guessing the coyote high tailed it out of there when you blasted the badger...that's ok, he'll be back!

Thanks JR. I want to learn so if this guy is willing to tell me what do prep wise, I'll do it save some money or else I will order some chemicals and do it my self. Just hate ruining the hide if I don't have to.

The coyote took off when we all started to go outside.

But it is OK, a mating pair came thru the yard at lunch time today. If I didn't have to be at work this after noon I would have shot them both and skinned them. They will be back and they will die.

I do like what they have done to gopher population though.

NGO, I have a DVD on brain tanning hides. Not sure how it works with fur. Your welcome to view it if you want.

That is one ugly little creature...

Sagebrush Taxedermy charged me $75 to tan a full mule deer hide.
They ship it off to Texas...of course, I do not have it back yet..almost a year later...
Reminded me, I have to call the guy and find out what is up with that...

Supposedly, the guy who runs thplace has an excellent reputation in the Mountian Home area.
