Scope for a POF 308
« on: April 11, 2009, 05:49:46 PM »
I am looking at ordering a POF 308 and am trying to figure out how much this beast will end up running.  I can order the gun and know the price and wait time but am wondering what optics to consider for the gun.  I am looking at getting the 16" barrel so don't really need that 5-25 Schmidt and Bender at Impact Guns but am looking at the S&B's, Trijicon, NightForce, Leupold, US Optics, etc etc.  The 16" won't get much past 600 yards but something that covers close in and way out may be in order.  Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated.
There are not alot of samples available locally to look through so am soliciting the experience here.

FWIW, I shot a POF once and it kicked way more than other piston systems.  I'd contact Primary Weapons Systems and see what you can get from them.  Plus they are local.  ;)

I liked my ACOG and wish I'd kept it.  The 4x was quick up close and the BDC reticle worked great to 600 for man size targets.

I don't believe PWS makes a piston driven 308.  Their 223 is top notch.

Last time I checked (before the Obama surge, about a year ago), lead times on the POF 308s were 8-9 months.  I've no idea what they're at now, but I can't imagine them being any better.  Of course you could always pay about 1.5-2x retail on gunbroker.

In your same situation I'd look into the LaRue 308 rifle which will be coming out shortly.  Then I'd probably find a Nightforce out on the internet somewhere, along with a LaRue QD mount.  But that's just me...
