My buddy D who's been hibernating all winter was starting to get a severe case of spring fever and needed to get out and do something.  So we decided that an overnighter was in order and since the places we normally go (around McCall) are still under several feet of snow we thought it was a perfect chance to check out a completely new area.  After some searching around we decided to go explore the Leslie Gulch OR area in the Owyhees since it was pretty close and not under a ton of snow.  We left K-town shortly after 08:00 Wednesday morning and arrived at the beginning of the gulch area around 10.  My pack was right at 39lbs., now that's a lot for me for just an over nighter, but I packed heavier on purpose due to a bunch of upcoming super adventure climbs where I'll want to be used to more weight.

Here we are just leaving the truck, we'll be heading up towards that first rocky peak.  You cant tell from the picture but we are getting rained on pretty good.







I had to take the JR hardcore route





After about 4hrs of trekking from rocky peak to rocky peak we found a decent flat spot that was protected by an outcropping for setting up shop.



Once the tents were set up and we had a chance to get a bite to eat we decided to head off to explore the area



Found tons of weird rock formations with lots of interesting caves and erosion patterns



"The Lone Tree".  From here we could see wild mustangs across the valley, unfortunately our camera equipment wasnt able to reach out there to get a snapshot





The next morning we headed out around 06:00 and navigated our way back to the Stomper around 07:30.





It was a good trip for sure and allowed us to get in to some country we hadnt seen before.  Total elevation gain from the truck to our highest point while hiking was 1800ft, temps were in the 40s and 50s, and it continued to rain off and on for the majority of the trip but that never bothers me.  If you havent seen this area before I highly recommend it, especially with it being close enough to make it a day trip.






Oh, and this one is for you OGs that remember the JR Shower Test thread that made the lookout pose famous.   ;D

awesome pics, I envy you! good thing your on my good side, as you just provided me with some good photo shopping fodder. But wheres the Guns?

I agree those are great pics. But I didn't see any guns and I swear I saw some pink boots ;D ;)

It looks like some sort of holster off of JR's right hip. Oh and some TAD gear... :evilgrin:

You are absolutely right!  The pouch on my right hip is a custom concealed holster complete with G17 and an extra mag secured to the internal velcro.  D Man is packing also, you see it's just that we're sneaky adventure ninjas and are maintaining the element of suprise for those wild packs of feral cougars. :)

As for the TAD Gear, hell yeah!  I am a total TAD whore, on this trip; wore the F10 Amphib cargos, Raptor hardshell, the new alpine LT beanie, and I've also got an old Ranger hoodie fleece in the pack that i ended up using as a pillow (not cold enough to need it walking around).

Pink boots...'I pound dirt for boobies', I think you're on to a great idea  :rofl2:  That's what I like to call 'dominator red', it's what I wear to dominate mountains across the western US.   ;D

You know I know we had the conversation on what your posting name was at Lightfighter but I didn't recall it...but I recognize the face and can put 2 and 2 together! lol.  See you in the OTA on the 24th.

That is a great area to hike.  Further towards Succor Creek there is a rock formation called Three Finger. (you can actually see it from the highway) On top of the middle "finger" there used to be a glass jar with a notebook you could put your name in. Pretty cool. Used to spend a lot of time around that area when I was a teen.  Last time I was down in succor creek there was waaaay to much poison ivy for me to be close too.  Anyhow, excellent pictures and looks like you guys had a fun time.
