Ammo Avaliability
« on: April 05, 2009, 08:47:14 PM »
Weekend report on ammo availablity:

1. Joe's - No Handgun in normal calibers, lot's shotgun, No .22
2. Sportsmans - No change in shelves
3. Cablea's - Lot's of choices, Limited on .45, but lots of .40 and 9mm, not so much in plinking ammo but in self defense ammo. 223, quite a bit on the shelf of this too. Not the bulk stuff, but in the 20 and 50 round boxes. No .22
4. Cliff's - 223 ans .22 as you walkin the door. It's expensive but they have it. Lot's of powder but Man is it expensive. $180 for 8lb jug of Titegroup! Which I don't understand because I can order it online and pay hazmat and shipping and come in lower priced. Also had some Lg Pistol Primers WOLF

Anyone else? It would appear that some ammo is starting to come back in stock in places.

When were you in Cabela's? I was there yesterday and they were cleaned out. Anyway, Walmart on overland also has 9mm and 45 in stock as of 0830 pm.

This afternoon around 5:00pm.

It was kinda scattered all over. But one of the end caps had a load of 147gr 9mm Winchester Self Defense ammo. and 40 S&W as well, all Hollowpoints.

Another end cap had 223 and it was loaded up, and another end cap had some more 223 it was looking lean.

The main pistol ammo aisle was really picked clean but if you walked around there was ammo to be found.

Went to the Eagle/Fairview Walmart on Saturday.  Still out of 9mm but had a decent amount of .22lr on the shelf.

Just was over at Fairview/Eagle WalMart

Lots of white box 9mm, .40, .45 and .380

They had Green and Yellow Remington boxes of .223 and .308 and other rifle ammo.

No .22lr other than 100 round boxes

Bummer for those of that work during the day because it'll be gone by the time we get off..  I need to snag me some 9mm WWB.
Due to the actions of the offender...

Just took a trip to the Overland Walmart.  They have roughly 40-50 boxes of WWB 9mm on the shelf as of about 1 hour ago.

On the way out I used the self-checkout.  The lady had to override the system for each box I bought.  I commented that I thought it would be smart enough to recognize the SKU as being the same and wouldn't ask her each time.  She replied "Nope, the federal government has to know exactly what your getting where it comes to ammo."   I kid you not...

That's why I don't use the self check-out when buying ammo.  ;D

I spoke with several local dealers. They both said things are starting to rattle loose a little bit.

It's not the federal government, it's Walmart. They are also the company that has the video cameras in the gun department to record all purchases.

If this was true, you would be forced to sign in with your name and all pertinent information when you bought. If you paid cash, at the self check out, there is no record of you buying it. Just a note to Walmart that they were bought.

The reason for the need for an override is because you have to be a certain age to purchase ammo.  It is built in the system to alert the cashier to make sure the customer is of age.  Same concept for Alcohol and cigarettes.  Wal*Mart also has the same restriction on knifes.  My son tried to buy a knife for me at Christmas time.  Because he was not 16 they would not sell to him.

I work part time at a Chevron and the register will not allow us to ring up beer & cigs until we enter in a valid DOB.
What's that? You want a high speed lead injection?

I knew about the restriction since usually I get it over the counter at the sporting goods section.  They ask the same questions there too, as well as whether it's for a handgun or not.  I just found her comment interesting is all.  Really I wouldn't expect the teller at walmart to know one way or the other why they have to override.  The fact that I got a reply like that was kinda surprising. :-\

Impact has Federal .223 for 11 bucks a box.  Plus they still have a 400 round case sitting there.  As of about 1100 today.
