My New Toy
« on: April 04, 2009, 05:25:21 PM »
Finally, a .22 that I really love!  Shoots like a dream, no feed problems, and fits my hand perfectly...should have listened to some of you the first time...oh well, nobody is perfect.

Yea!  Nice one.  I've got a MkII MK4B-short 4" Bull Bbl and target stocks.  Unbelievably accurate and fun to shoot.  Love picking off spent shotgun shells at 15-20yds with it.

What did you get the first time around? It sounds like you regret it. Some "why's" might help others.
All data is flawed, some just less so.

1.  Sig Mosquito - my first one was really, really picky on ammo (second one was awesome, would eat anything I put in it)...really liked the looks but was not much of a hunting (varmint) gun.

2.  Walther P22 - probably would have been my favorite but it is just so small, did not fit my big hands properly...my buddy Pete bought it from me and he loves it!!  Dead on accurate, feeds perfectly, and he likes the compact size.

3.  Ruger Charger - really, really accurate and probably the most reliable gun I shot.  10/22 is a proven gun and all the kinks are worked out of it but...very bulky, heavy, and requires a scope.  Lots of aftermarket parts available (Arch Angel, Tactical Solutions, and standard Ruger parts).  But this is kind of a "show" piece to me, I believe the rifle model is better.

4.  Heritage Arms Rough Rider 22/22MAG - sweet little pistol for the price, about $170.00.  Single action cowboy gun, with two cylinders, iron sights, and no frills.   This was a sweet gun but I just do not like the revolvers (personal choice), kind of how some people dont like Glocks due to the tilt of the barrel...these just dont sit in my hands right.

5.  Browning Buck Mark Camper - sweet little shooter, eats everything, and no problems...just had a buddy who wanted it bad so traded to him.  Short barrel but still accurate.

6.  Ruger MK III 22/45 - wow!  Six inch barrel is perfect, magazines are nice, deadly accurate (just ask the whistle pigs) and can get Tactical Solutions stuff that is really cool.  Going to put on a Houge wrap around grip to make it a little fatter, little slim for me.   And like the Charger, the MK III has the kinks pretty much worked out.

I think it comes down to knowing what you want...that was my problem.   I wanted a compact, I want a Varmint gun, I want a cool gun, yadda-yadda-yadda.   When I finally sat down and thought about it, I wanted a Varmint gun for shooting whistle pigs and something my wife would enjoy shooting.  The Ruger MK III or the Brownie fit that perfectly.  And price was really not a problem here, they were all pretty close in price (40-60 one way or the other).  Some I just skipped due to price (Berettas new Cheetah and others).  Hope it helps some one.
