Neighboring States Firearms Purchases?
« on: April 03, 2009, 04:32:21 AM »
I believe it was actually a member here who told me this, I could purchase a firearm from a neighboring state (i.e. Here in Oregon) as a resident of Idaho. Technically I am a resident of both because I have residences in both states. Anywho who replies, is it possible to quote the law text that states it? Thanks.

I will check into it but if it is a neighboring state you should be able to purchase a long gun.

Thanks for the help guys. So I am able to make purchases? I hope this is universally known, otherwise I'll print out a copy of that law text and bring it with me.

I will ONLY speak of firearms sold in IDAHO.

"18-3314.  RESIDENT'S PURCHASE OF FIREARM IN CONTIGUOUS STATE" - CONTIGUOUS has no bearing in federal law since the advent of the Brady Bill.

From an ATF/FBI viewpoint - you may purchase long guns in any state after the Brady approval.  Handguns must be purchased in your home state.

RESIDENCY: YOU ARE A RESIDENT OF IDAHO IF YOU ARE STAYING IN YOUR OWNED SECOND HOME OR HAVE MOVED TO IDAHO.  PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OF SECOND HOME IS NEEDED TO PURCHASE HANDGUNS.  (I.E - A CALIFORNIAN RESIDING AT HIS OWNED IDAHO HOME IS AN IDAHO RESIDENT DURING HIS STAY.  THE ANNUAL REAL-ESTATE TAX STATEMENT IS PROOF OF OWNERSHIP.)

NON-RESIDENCY:- OUT-OF-STATE BUYERS MAY PURCHASE LONG GUNS IN IDAHO AFTER APPROVAL OF THE BRADY "INSTANT CHECK".   BUYERS SHOULD CONFIRM THAT NONE OF THEIR HOME STATE AGENCIES HAVE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON RETURNING WITH OUT-OF-STATE-FIREARM-PURCHASES.  (Just because you can purchase the Barrett M107 doesn't mean that California allows you to bring it into California!)
