Topic: Sheepdog .223 Ammo

Had the chance today to finally shoot one of my AR's and since I don't have access to my reloading equipment I picked up some Sheepdog ammo 55 grain FMJBT ammo that was for sale on the site . After zeroing my AR at 50 yards I started goofing around with some of the steel targets they had at the range . There was one piece about 14X14 at 317 and after figuring out my holdover I banged away at it hitting it with no problem . The group it left could have been covered by the bottom of a soda can which was impressive considering the 15-20 mph winds . At 400 yards they had another piece of steel roughly 14X20 and to make sure it wasn't a fluke we swapped shooters and a buddy of mine shot while I spotted . Again there was a few rounds expended getting the holdover and then fire for effect with damn near the same results . I havent had a chance to shoot a lot of this stuff but it seems to be working with about 18 inches of drop at 400 yards from my 50 yard zero . I was using my Les Baer AR with a Leupold 8.5-25 scope with a TMR reticle for all this . I contacted Travis about acquiring some of his 68 grain match ammo but due to the pricing decided I would just wait until I can reload my . If you don't reload then this stuff should work well just for casual plinking or more serious 3-gun style competition (hell I would use it for blasting whistlepigs as well). In a few weeks I plan on making a return trip with some more gear for a steadier rest and will take my camera to verify results as well . Should be interesting to see how it shakes out .

That makes sense from what Travis told me with his ammo. Bullet groups for standard ammo is up to 10 inches and he wanted his ammo to be a lot better than that so he started ordering better bullets. So his match ammo should be even better than blastin ammo. I like his mindset. If your going to be in this market then you might as well have the best stuff and business will come back. Its great to have him local too.

I agree with you guys.  I've shot Sheep Dog Ammo and I think it is good stuff.  It functions well and groups well with all my rifles.  Plus it's a local company and he is competitive with his prices.  What more can you ask for.

I got 1000 rounds of the 75gr Hornaday Match ammo.  It shot well out of a gas piston AR and custom 223 bolt gun. It is a good alternative to Black Hills and Federal and made locally.
