Now I know why I've been struggling with accuracy with my M700.  After shooting some 5" (or bigger) groups at 100 yards i gave up and came home.  I started cleaning the rifle and the barrel was loose.  As in wobbling around loose.  This is the first time I've ever heard of a barrel coming loose on a M700.

It doesn't appear that any thread locking gunk was used.

This is crazy!  Has anyone else heard of this happening on a properly installed barrel?

I paid a lot of money for this "custom" rifle and I just sent a message to the smith who put it together.  I hope he wants to fix it.  Whatever happens I'll be sure to post it here.

Well, he said to send it back and he'd fix it.  He's standing behind it 100%.  He said he's never heard of this happening and that normally a barrel even hand tightened will tighten itself when shooting.

He said he'd check it all out and see if anything is ruined or needs to be replaced.  He'll torque the barrel down and then test shoot for accurate grouping.  If it doesn't he'll put a new barrel on it.  :)

So, while it may take a week or two at least it should be fixed.  It sucks that I've wasted 500 rounds of FGMM and 300 or so hand loads doing load dev.  I'll have to start all over.  :(

I know how you feel...I had that Sabre that did the same fucking thing (as I'm sure some of you remember...yeah, that one AR I was ready to throw all the way across our range and shoot it with 'ol trusty)   Let us know what the smith says.

As I know who the Smith is I am sure he will make it right .

First I have ever heard of it either as many of the Switch barrel crowd do not tighten the barrels much beyond hand tight either .

If you need a rifle for the match let me know and I will let you use my rifle .

Thanks!  He said he'd have it back before the match so I should be OK.  Hopefully, I'll have a few days to do some last minute load development.

In the mean time I thought I'd load up some 77gr Custom Competitions and see if I can push them out there.  At least that way I'd have a backup.  Or I could bed my M1a and see if it would hang in there at distance.  Time is my enemy now.  Plus no more money.  ;)
