Light 223 bullets
« on: March 23, 2009, 05:20:28 AM »
Wanting to start shooting lighter bullets less than 55gr in a 223. The 40 or 45gr's plan
on chuck's mainly may try some sagerats....
The rate of twist is 1-12 boltgun, distance may go as far as 350 to 400 yards....
Looking for some load information if you wish to share some........Thanks Nomad.

40grn V-MAX + 28.5grns of BLC(2) + Win SRP = 3500fps of varmint destruction.

This is .5 grns over max published loads, but shows no pressure signs in my Howa 1500. Approach with caution!

I have had good results with 27 to 27.5 grains of H322 and the 40 grain Vmax or Nosler BT bullet. If you have a 1-12" twist that should be just dandy for 40 grain slugs.

Even though a 50 or 55 grain bullet would be better for ranges past 300 yards or so, I have killed prairie dogs out past 400 yards with the 40 grain slug and it worked just fine. For ground squirrels the 40 grainer is just about perfect. I launched quite a few with that above load that I gave you.

Hope that it works for you.
