My AR's "first hike" ..treading above Granite Lake
« on: July 17, 2007, 11:51:09 AM »
Took the All American Rifle with me on a weekend hike near McCall.  I've been hiking around the general area now and again for the past few years, such a beautiful place of course, but with the forest fires of the past the result was my friends and I having a hard place by the lake finding shade.  There was a fire that seemed to be raging Northwest of us and I got a cool pic of the initial roiling smoke.  Anyways see you guys Thursday for Pizza!

Hey LK!

Yeah but it's a low grade digital camera, just a 90 dollar Kodak 3 mega pixel (think I got that part right) that I got for selling some ebay stuff..works great though and really takes some pretty good pics.  I'd like to get a Canon Eos or something like that, but they are not trying to ban cameras so hence my money will be spent other places :)

I don't think it is...I've been confused (it happens) since I got back, because when I look at Google Earth it looks almost like we went to Goose Lake and Not Granite?

Here's the route:  Took the road to Brundage then instead of turning off to Brundage Ski Resort we just keep going, end up going I "think" to Granite lake, where a lot of people had campers and stuff.  We hiked from there on a Cat trail for about 3/4 of a mile before turning up and hiking over a ridge (this would be heading West) and then North through a small meadow and then again over another incline where we drop down by that lake.  This lake is relatively pretty small, but anyways it was a fun time..

Are you familiar with the Clies lakes?  I've hiked into those as well, what is strange is that they are listed on regular Forest Service and Road maps but I can't seem to find them online when I google them.  That hike was much more strenuous, we went to a trailhead 16 miles out of McCall (road that leads to Yellowpine) and hiked a mile through a forest before climbing right up the mountain (no trail), going from 7,000 ft. elevation to 8,200 before dropping back down into the area that had the Clies in it.

The nicest thing about that is the challenge and being outdoors, but also the privacy.  You don't have to worry about running into any other people, you have the whole place to yourself, with the exception of a die-hard hiker that is just passing through.

Sorry so long I like talking about hiking... ;D

I did a nice posed shot with the AR...one where I was chest deep in water wading through a bunch of reeds, it turned out great...okay I know I've been watching Apocalypse now to much but anyways...

I don't think it's Goose lake, I camped there several days last hunting season, Don't remember any small hills that close to the water.  But I could be wrong.  Can't remember where exactly I've seen that hill but I have seen it before.

Yeah I am sure it is a small lake 2 miles North Northwest of Granite Lake.  We were parked on the Northern end of Granite Lake, although I think there are other little logging roads and trails in and out of there that people use.

Canons are decent, but the software and options for Nikon and HP are unbeatable if your gonna spend the  money get a good one. If your looking for pro pics talk to Sanfordt. I just have a thing for black and white photos and can't seem to get my digital to do them for me.

Oh gotcha...well I changed that photo to black and white with a program, its not on this pc I am at now, I think it is Microsoft and called "Picture it"...you can change it to black and white or antique, the antique makes it kind of yellowish like an old B & W studio portrait you would see Wyatt Earp in or what have you.  Thanks for the camera advice!!
