bbq and shooting feeler
« on: March 17, 2009, 11:02:30 PM »
want to get a feeler for people who would be interested in a shoot in say may or june before it got too hot. do a bbq and have a range set up, saw a video on a different site and thought it would be a neat idea for the group to do apart from the pizza nights.

Last time we tried to set something up there was a fire restriction so we didn't do it.

which is why i am suggesting may or june before it gets too dry i am also open to trying this up in the woods instead of the desert. like i said it would be nice to meet the people from the Magic valley, West side, and in general just getting a group of people together to do this. appreciate any and all input into this. was just looking at the calendar and D-day falls on saturday. what does everyone think of that date? still early into the summer and should still be fairly green.

Find a place we can camp and shoot.  Preferably with some trees and water.  And not on a holiday weekend. ;)

d-day counts as a holiday weekend? didnt know it was federal holiday, although it should be IMO. Others can chime in as well if you have suggestions of where this could take place. i dunno BBQ and shooting just sounds really good right now. i will give the forest service a call of where no go areas are and where they would suggest.

Sage Hen is not a far drive, has a lake, trees, 4-wheeler terrain, and places  you can go in and shoot, also has designated and non-designated camping. I would pick May the earlier we go the less the mosquito's are a nuisance at the water side.

I won't be able to make the last week/weekend of May.  But don't let that stop you.  ;)

ok  so idaho city is in the mix plus's are its not far enough away from boise to be a incredable drive. Ar-10 could you give pm a description of some of these place?

One is a few miles out of town on Boise National Forest land. There is a large flat area with no trees, about 65 yards by 30 yards, plenty of room to set up 15+ tents, and you can shoot anywhere around the camp.

Another one is a little larger, and about the same distance from town, but it has trees and bushes scattered in the camping area. and again, you can shoot anywhere around camp. This one does have a stream running through it.

If we did it right, we could miss the few flat landers that know about these places.

I really don't know what else you are looking for in a description, as all of the areas I know of pretty much fit these two descriptions. I do know of a couple of places that are farther up in the hills, but I figured closer to town might be nice, just in case anyone needed to run to town and get something.

Before I post my vote is your goal to just shoot with the shooters, or to have the shooters and their wives and children all together and be able to shoot as well? Is this aimed at camping together or just hanging out for the day, cause what you originally posted seemed more like a day trip and what others are posting sound more like a camping trip, gotta know what to bring.

yes if you wanna bring a bbq gun i wont say no :P, ok so heres what we came up with Swan falls Area, may 9th, Family friendly event, if you wanna camp overnight then yeah alcohol would be ok then, i still need to get ahold of idaho power/blm since its their domain. we are trying to get this set up early so that we can have this ready to go come may. what i need is at least 3-5 people that would be good camping overnight. I know i would so we only need 2-4 more people that would be willing to spend the night. i am was looking at the swan falls dam website and i think we will have to camp away from the dam. what we are trying to accomplish is have people who just wanna come down for the day be able to drive down hang out, and then when they are ready to be able to go home, those who wanna spend the night are more than welcome but i wanna get a number of people by say first or 2nd week in april. This will be a bring your own meat/bevarage, unless i get a definant number of people then we could go in on a package deal. i have done this type of deal before with 10-20 people and accomplished it for say around 100 for all the food and fixings. the shooting portion, i was discussing this with jeff last night and we came up with that the shooting part would be optional, dont have to shoot if you dont wanna, this is mainly a event to get people on the board together and just having a good time. if you do wanna shoot stay tuned and i will post early next week what i find out from the BLM/Idaho power. i am thinking 1-2 canopy tents would be good, i dont own any so if anyone has one that would be willing to loan it that would be cool. sorry for the length of this but as we were talking last night i wanna make this happen, and want it to happen before they say no to fire.

I will stay over night, my kids love camping.  The only tents I have are just the regular garden variety kind.  I have a large one about 4 people and a small one about 2-3 people.   Also up for chipping in on the food deal,  I think we could find a pretty good deal.

I'm in for camping and cooking. you don't need a tent to camp, only helpful if it rains.
