Greetings, I've been reading up on the subject and this one website: http://www.cryoplus.com/gunbarrels.html says it increases the life of the barrel by 200-400% by changing the molecular structure of the metal. Does anyone have any practical, real-world experience with this treatment?

Keep us informed when you find out.

I have a 700 also and have though about that, I think it cost a couple hundred to have it done.

I think for the cost I would just buy a new barrel. I really don't think I'm going to be shooting out my 30-06  in my life time.

I'm not sure.  I wouldn't think about something that expensive (need a smith to take off the old one and put it back on + $60 for the cryo) unless it were on a new match tube.  And then I'd do whatever the manufacturer or smith said was the ticket.  A new Rock Creek 5R blank starts at $400.  In .308 a barrel like that is going to last several thousand rounds.

My semi-educated guess on this procedure is that the benefit is inversely proportional to the initial quality of the steel you're treating.

So let me summerize so far "We don't know and are guessing." Is that about right? If anyone knows someone with practical experience with cryo, then I'm interested in hearing the results.

Hmmm, OK.  Since all you got were guesses I suggest you seek out a forum more suited to this question.  Perhaps there a benchrest forum someplace where someone might have some real world experience with this process.  I doubt any of us do.

Sorry you took it that way. I suppose I have an unique sense of humor and you didn't get it. I'll stop expressing it on the forums and just stay to the facts.

Whoa.  I didn't see it so much a smart ass post as a little indelicate (I didn't see the humor either).  I always find that a smiley added to a post helps one see the humor when it's not obvious.  ;)

Now, back on topic...

Craigfw has requested that his account be deleted.  He has decided to move on.  I will be granting his request and don't know how the system will handle his posts.  So, I'm going to lock this thread and leave it around for a couple of days before deleting his account.  Just so people don't start asking me what happened.

BTW, by reading this thread you know all I do about why craigfw has decided to move on.  In other words, I can't answer any questions so don't ask.
