Calling for AR-15 experts DPMS stripped lower
« on: July 09, 2007, 01:07:47 PM »
What is a good price for DPMS stripped lower.

I have two of them on hold for 127.20 each OTD.

Can I also register one as a pistol since they're stripped.

Any inputs???

Last one I got was $125.  Doesn't it have to be marked as a pistol to be legal?

I've reading some forums online that as long as you register it as a pistol on the form when you first purchase it, it will be registered as a pistol receiver.

I just wanted to be sure on this.

I really don't know about the pistol thing since I never considered building one.

Not an expert, but its my understanding that the stamp 'Pistol' on an AR pistol is to reduce hassle from LE and such.  The marking is not required.

Someone educate me.

ETA: That price seems a little high to me for DPMS.  Ameetec Arms is selling complete lowers (both w/ 6 pos and A1 stocks) for 200$ right now.

I don't have the link but there's a letter from BATF dated Nov 2004.

On the time of purchase, if the lower was stripped, or never been rifle stocked, it can be registered as a pistol and will remain a pistol.

Here's the a question -- if I make the lower PISTOL and attached a stock and proper barrell lenth, is this legal.  Its like having those carbine conversion for glock and 1911 -- meztech.  They use a lower receiver pistol and make it into a pistol grip rifle.  UMM ???

I bought two stripped DPMS lowers at local store.  $252.40 out the door.  Bonus -- they were consecutive serial numbers.  Don't see that often.  I registered one on the form 44*** (form to purchase gun)as a pistol and one as a rifle.  Last two digits was 16 and 17 so I registered the 17 as a pistol -- I'm naming the rifle sweet 16.  ;D ;D

thanks for all the good info -- now I need to search for parts kit and uppers -- anyone have spare parts for sale or trade.

Don't know about the pistol thing, but $127 seems resonable if your getting it locally. And when you consider price, shipping and the transfer price, it probably not a bad deal even if you found one on the 'net for ~ $100.

I bought my DPMS stripped lower for 100.00, but I got a decent deal. As far as registering, I don't know mine is not registered.

First off, Idaho does not have gun registration, so there is no need to register it.

if i understand it correctly, all you need to do is be sure that the seller does not write "rifle" anywhere on the 4473 form that you fill out when you purchase the recievers.  that form does not "register" your firearms.

feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

That paragraph at the end about buffer tubes could be a gotcha if you have other AR weapons in the house and spare parts.

Maybe not
