Good and the Bad and the Downright Ugly!!
« on: February 21, 2009, 05:48:50 PM »
Had an awesome day shooting whistle pigs today!!!  The Varmints were everywhere today!!  We (myself and three friends) went North of Middleton on the BLM Land.  Started out as a great day, perfect location (up on a small draw shooting down into a creekbed - great backstop) and no one around.  About an hour into the shooting a group of three very nice  gentlemen from Boise stopped by said howdy and asked if we would mind them shooting about 200 feet up the road, of course we said not a problem!  About an hour after that a Grandfather, Father, and young son decided to park there rig directly between us and do some shooting...no problem until the aholes decided to disregard our two groups and walk down the draw and meander between our two shooting groups.  After a heated exchange of words (our group and the nice gentlemen from earlier screaming at these jerks to get the hell out of our line of fire) they went back to the middle and started shooting like us...down the draw into the embankment safely and not wandering into lines of fire.  Shortly after this a California Redneck (hispanic male with two kids and a jacked up Tahoe 4x4 with those flat skinny tires) pulls up directly in front of us.  The youngest boy of about 6 to 7 jumps out of the rig, dad hands him a shotgun and KABLAM!!!!  No looking, no asking, and God only knows were the hell he was shooting at!!!  We all scramble for cover screaming "WHAT THE HELLL!!!"  The father laughs as if this is the funniest and safest thing in the world.  So we decided to move on and head to a safer location.  As we were picking up the father confronts me (remember guys, I am about 6'7" and close to 300lbs...and not all of it is fat) and asks why we are moving and if we have a problem with him.  Very calmly we explained that yes, we had a problem with the way his sons were acting with guns and that we were going to move away from them to a safer location.  He then become very belligerent and started to yell in Spanish at us and became very threatening.  Now keep in mind there are four of us and we armed to the teeth (two fully loaded AR15's, one AK47, one Ruger 10/22, two .357 revolvers, a Walther P22, and a Taurus PT111 in .45 ACP...common sense dont start a gun fight with a stick against a tank, right?!)  We very calmly yet alertly retreated to our vehicles and drove away to a different location where we had a blast for the rest of the day.  We also made a short call to the local Constable (Gem County) with the vehicle and plate information.   This is just a gentle reminder to have a good time and watch out for the idiots out there, and never resort to violence if you can but just walk away.

where the heck were you shooting at? (so I can avoid it).
America is at an awkward stage, it's too late to work within the system, and to early to shoot the bastards.

Take Emmett road outside of Middelton to the North and I believe it was the second turn off into the BLM property, right before you drop down into the Emmett valley.  I could not believe how many people are out there, but it was still fun and a lot closer than driving clear out to Blacks Creek.

You should seiriously try the sand hollow area.  I hardly ran into another person while out there.

Sand hollow can get pretty busy later in the spring. But right now you'd be pretty alone.

I grew up out in Emmett, and have gone back to that area for the pigs, and never had any problems. If they gave you to much grief, I guess you bury the bodies out there.
Except slavery, nazism, communism, and fascism, war has never solved a thing!

Great spot!!! When I first moved here a buddy took me there to introduce me to the great sport of "piggin". He and i still try to get together a few times a year to go out here. Theres a better spot if you follow the trail around the area a bit. We tend to setup on the hill and shoot down into the mounds. Hope to see you out there once or twice before the season ends.

I shoot out there in that same spot and have never seen more then one or two other groups out there. Most of the time by myself. Too bad I guess people are looking for spots to try thier newly acquired guns.  I guess you should always have a shovel with you in case of fire...  8)

I went out there a few weeks back....it was pretty crowded. But everyone was cool. Thats a weird situation to be in, you did the right thing by just moving on.
